Dave Gettleman on Dave Gettleman

Gettleman has a point about getting rid of a “cultural problem” with OBJ, meaning locker room culture. It worked getting rid of Steve Smith, who by all accounts was hindering the growth of Cam as a leader.

Of course Gettleman also made a bunch of dumb decisions in his stint here, but the point he’s making in the OP article makes sense.

The problem with your logic is the Carolina Panthers wide receiver corps has more often than not been a depressing mess at best since Smith's exit. We tried and failed miserably with expensive picks like Benjamin and Funchess. The best we had seen at the position was from Ted Ginn. We're just now seeing some actual talent with real game breaking potential in Moore. How many years has Smith been gone now? That's right.

The problem with this logic is the Panthers nearly went 18-0 without Smith.

If we're going to tout this accomplishment then let's be real with each other. We're also the only team in NFL history to win that many games and immediately follow that success up with 6 wins. That doesn't happen without some serious incompetence.

Anyway, Gettleman went and paid Tate and Sterling Shepard so they are obviously in better shape than the Panthers were.

For a total of only 78 million dollars.

I remember when the Panthers thought the likes of Tiquan Underwood or Russell Shepard could be the answer.

I know Dave has done PLENTY of terrible moves, but in a draft that super heavy on both lines....... I sure would not mind him as a GM for this draft and as soon as he signed the UDFAs, fire him.

I blasted him for not drafting Sam Darnold, but he selected the OROY along with other great picks. Early returns on that draft class look great.
