It amazes me how many people are completely blind to this. They can create their own "truth" and ignore or ridicule anything to the contrary.

Depending on how you view it, that’s the evolution or devolving of how society receives news

Just to get back to the original topic for a second, DOES anyone - @Jeremy Igo - ??? have confirmation that Jourdan is really leaving? There seems to be one fairly reliable source ACC media guy saying both she and Marcel are leaving but it seems strange it would be announced internally last week with no confirmation yet, especially once Marcel announced his upcoming departure.

I'm not saying opinion journalism in sports should completely be eradicated...some people actually enjoy it, but it shouldn't be top-down fed by the ideologues in upper management.  It should also be plainly noted as the opinions of those reporters and not meshed in with the regular news of the day.  As long as it exists as a totally separate entity from the fact based sports news such as scores, highlights, injuries, contract signings etc...that's fine.

Media coverage is changing in a big way around here. If the Panthers could flick a switch and have its own in house Media group be the exclusive provider they would, and each year they move closer to that.

I've really been surprised at how much Bill Voth changed. I know he works for them now, but I wish he would be more critical. Best thing he's done since he's been over there was that interview he did with Tepper. I would like to see more of that from him.

It's absolutely devolving IMO. It breeds ignorant self righteousness, again IMO.

I just don't think that society has adjusted to the information age and having so much information (and misinformation) constantly available at a click. Meanwhile, media outlets are having to revert to a pure business mentality of giving their customers what they want just to fight for survival. It all leads to scrambling to be first without fact checking, highly biased and sensationalized reports, etc. It's not good. I just hope we grow past it.

As a quick but related aside,

I was just thinking how helpful my Panthers focused Twitter timeline has been in helping me stay connected with a great diversity of political opinion in the States. I follow folks who are VERY VERY far apart politically but who love the Panthers. It means I see retweets / comments from different sides of issues, and I'm grateful for that.

Being overseas I lose touch easily... ironically obsessing over Panthers helps me stay in touch on many other subjects!

There seems to be a de-evolution to our society right now, in general. Despite having lifetimes worth of knowledge 0.5 seconds away at any given time, people still fall into the falsehoods and drivel that is put out by news media firms of all types. With increased competition comes the need to create a niche, or fall into an existing niche, and to have the most compelling storyline within that niche; whether it's true or not doesn't matter. A correction can always be issued at a later date.

My understanding on Bill is he’s working in a more senior comms capacity now.

Newspapers as a model have been dying for my entire adult life. Seeing one is like driving past a Sears. Like, really? Those still actually exist?

This. If you are my age (50's), you will be the last generation to read a physical newspaper. My kids never have and they don't watch TV either. My daughter tells me she gets her news from some millennial Youtuber.

What's interesting is that even as a 50 something myself who used to LOVE newspapers, I read them less and less.

I recognize how computers / the internet and social media have really changed my brain.

1. I've stopped remembering phone numbers / birthdays because I have them saved in my phone.

2. My attention span is so much shorter. I rarely read even the best articles word for word anymore but scan quickly.

3. Even in the States with a physical newspaper in my hands, I rarely read many stories. I scan headlines for what's most interesting and read maybe only 20 or 25% of what I might have read in the past.

I still read a lot of books at least, but sustained focus has become a challenge.

I feel the same way to a lesser extent. Having lived in Colorado for the past 13 years, continuing to follow the local NC sports teams has kept me much more connected to the news back there than I would be otherwise.

Reporters- whatever media they use- don't care about who or what they report on, they're just doing a job. You think the weather girl in Charlotte is there because she loves Charlotte? Offer her a job in Maui.

This is true of a high majority. Each step is a stepping stone.

But the media industry is cutthroat like that. You’re often hired to be fired.
