Fingers crossed, but honestly we will just need solid, not spectacular out of our secondary. Of course that is if the front is like we hope it is.

What makes the front line effective is tight coverage off the line so there aren't 3 wide open guys available right after the snap for an easy pitch and catch for 5 yards. You need good coverage in the secondary and hard hitting safeties to bust things up. Sure they don't have to be Richard Sherman good but the secondary in Seattle for example is what made their D line so effective. I think it takes both to really dominate which is what I hope we do this year.

I agree. Quick pressure and tight coverage will disrupt most teams passing game. Love the direction. If it works, we're going deep in the playoffs.

If this offseason is any indication, this may be the most aggressive Panthers team we have seen in quite a while. I think jobs are on the line and they should be. With that said, pressing receivers and an array of blitzes could be the forecast and if we have a physical secondary, our defense can be legit.

So when he was the defensive coordinator of the Giants in 2015 he advocated a bend don't break defense with soft zone coverage giving up the underneath route. I think that was a major reason he got fired as it felt like death by a thousand cuts.  I wonder what he has learned from that or is that his system and what we will run.

I had posted this in another topic but I am really hoping that Fewell is the MVP this spring of our team. Hopefully can make some strides with the younger guys like Gualden, Corn, and Seymour.  If they can step up it will pay huge benefits.  I’m also hoping he can take both Bradberry and Jackson to very good if not elite levels.  Yeah it’s June, but we have been missing a quality DB coach since Wilkes left.

With our front 7 and an improved secondary we could definitely have a top 5 defense.

Very excited to see what Fewell can do with our secondary. Reminds me of Wilks, but has an even deeper body of knowledge.

I didn't even know we had him. I'm so out of the loop this offseason. We've quietly acquired a lot of Name Brand guys on our coaching staff the last couple of years. I really like the knowledge he brings to the table.
