Voth's interesting comment about Cam

Actually, what that shows me is how much his mechanics have improved.  He threw that almost side arm and off his back foot.  Not quite falling backwards, but definitely not striding into with this body.  I hope what we've been seeing in camp is the real deal, because his motion in camp is light years ahead of that.

Also, while it was an 88 yard play, the ball only went about 50 in the air.  Still a long way, but we've seen consistent 40-45 yard in the air plays in camp.

I think we all hope to see the real Cam Newton this year.

Cam threw the ball 50 yards through the air off his back foot with horrible mechanics.....that was his healthy arm. He could absolutely launch the ball before. Haven’t seen that kind of long ball ability since the injury. Mechanics aside.

HC even said if the Pathers where still close to making the playoffs they would have played him all season last year. (SMH)  When teams where head hunting Cam in 2016 then he got hurt they should have sat him, but they wanted to win future be damned but here it is 2yrs later and they still paying for that thought process. Or as last season proved never changed.

Cam also shouldn't have been played down the stretch in '16 when he was obviously injured and we were out of contention and then we rode him into the ground again last year. From an outside perspective (which admittedly is imperfect at absolute best) it just seems like this entire shoulder injury situation has been poorly managed. At least Cam seems to understand that from his perspective now. His shoulder will likely never truly be 100% again, but hopefully it remains a manageable situation with smarter management of the situation.

That’s what I thought of immediately upon opening the thread. It was pretty apparent that  he was never back to his usual arm strength that obviously was still there in the 2015. That game 1 vs Denver that the refs allowed the broncos to treat him like a piñata is where it all started to me...then wasn’t that the season he tried to make a tackle off an interception and landed all awkward?

I know it’s early but his arm strength is looking great, mix that with norv, working on mechanics with Scott and all. I feel really good about it. Of course anything could happen but he’s obviously done everything possible to get back to 100%, shown great leadership etc.  However this goes that’s all you can ask for from him. I hope he’s able to remind the league who the fug he is because he’s worked as hard as anyone possibly could.. cheers

I agree to a large degree with those saying the team mismanaged the situation (playing him post-injury in 2016, delaying the surgery, and waiting too long to sit him last year.) But, I will add this disclaimer, Cam might not have been being honest with them about pain, etc. He alluded to that in a sense the other day, saying he's learning to be honest about his body and its needs.

If Cam was hiding the true extent of his injury, it makes the job harder for trainers and coaches. Obviously some things can be known / seen without Cam telling the truth (heck we all knew things weren't right!) but perhaps Cam's competitiveness led him to deceive trainers to some extent.

The most mobile and physical QB ever to play the game eventually is going to wear down and for Cam the weakest link is his shoulder. I hope it heals, but I am very skeptical bc he is going to continue to run

It's not the running that's the problem. The worst hits he's had are the one's in the pocket. A bad oline has absolutely exacerbated the issue.

Our OL has been solid over most of Cam’s career. Not sure what you have been watching but I’ve seen Cam’s head taken off and flipped upside down many times while running. The beating Cam has taken in and outside the pocket is not disputable.

Since Gross left, who have been the tackles?

LT the only player on the OL?  Again, our OL play since Cam has been the QB has been solid with the past two years probably being the weakest.

Just against Atlanta I can think of two very bad hits Cam took outside the pocket.

I’m not bashing Cam but I can’t fathom how anyone thinks Cam doesn’t take  hits outside the pocket.

Oh really?

I would definitely consider continuing to play him when he was very obviously struggling to throw the ball to be riding him into the ground. After that Steelers game, he could barely throw yet we played him another five games like that.

I agree Cam shouldn't have been playing, especially after the Tampa game.  In fact, he should have been pulled during the Tampa game.

But I do remember they didn't try to throw the ball much more than 10 yards in the Aints game.  They finally wised up and realized that Cam wasn't capable of throwing deep or even medium length passes.  They tried to give Cam the Peyton Manning final Super Bowl run treatment. Meaning don't screw up and do anything stupid, and try to let the defense win it.  Unfortunately, our defense wasn't quite as good as Denvers.

You scoffing at how important the tackles are means you have no idea what you're talking about.

Never forget, Kb helped ruin cam Newton's career because tubbo gave up on a route then didnt even attempt to tackle the guy who intercepted the pass intended for him.  Elite cam newton was stolen from football fans everywhere by that lard ass.

This is the truth.  Thats when he got hurt.
