Probably obada. More upside. Worth the shot.

Agree with you, but I hope we keep both Obada, Cox, and unfortunately Butler unless we can find an upgrade and send Christian Miller to IR for any plausible reason to free up a spot.

a first rounder that hasn't even come close to expectations ..time to cut bait...

I don't disagree in principal, but who are we going to bring in that will be any better than Butler as a depth piece?  We need at least 6 guys who can play the interior in a 3-4 base defense.

I know Obada and Cox rush the interior in certain situations (primarily passing), but I don't think they are big enough to play significant snaps there.

We are still going to pay Butler a substantial amount for this season, and cutting him raises other questions.

I'm not going to shed any tears if he's cut, I just don't know that it's a given or ultimately is the right move (at least for this year).  Obviously next year he's gone.

Keeping him in the team, not because there aren't other better options, but because you still owe him a couple million bucks and you wasted a first round draft pick on him is questionable on its own. I don't like that reasoning at all. We cut guys who are dead money fairly often. This should be no different.

I don’t agree with the consensus that he’s cut. Not only do I think he makes the roster, I think he’s active most weeks. It would Be foolish to go into a season with 5 DTs on the roster IMO, especially if we are calling cox a DT.

This is a moo point if we sign a free agent.  I don’t think Butler has earned it, but I don’t see a way we can cut him.

Include his entire quote. Who are you getting that is better, at this point. Some other teams 5th best DT after cuts? And at what additional cost? That’s the issue. I hope there is a DT that can be.

Those are all valid questions. And I wish he was already gone. Maybe we should have paid attention to the very deep DT class this past year.

There’s always the player for player trade to one of the other teams that crapped out in the 2016 1st round.  The Bills Shaq Lawson DE, Pittsburgh Artie Shaw CB and Oakland Karl Joseph S come to mind.  Unfortunately, the Giants have already given up on Eli Apple to the Saints.  Sometimes a fresh start with a different staff turn a career around.

Exactly correct.

I would be pretty shocked if he doesn’t make the team. He’s not going to live up to his draft position but he’s fine rotationally.

Ive just asked our film guy to break down his week one performance since everyone thinks it was such garbage.

How about ask ur film guy to bring up all his film since we drafted him. He is GARBAGE!

Agree w this. Good teams move on from mistakes early.

After watching the game, I change my stance. That horrible of effort is contagious. Eat the money and get him out of here now. I really didn’t understand how bad his play was the other night. That’s a player that’s content. And basically useless.
