Maybe Gano goes on PUP list to start the year? Buys the Panthers six weeks to make a decision.

Nope. Once a player has practiced, PUP is not an option. Only options now if he's not healthy would be to roster him, then to IR him and bring him back in 8 weeks.

I wonder if this guy might end up getting a better shot than I initially thought with Gano evidently still nursing a knee injury.

Yeah. Agreed.  I have also turned my attention to him.  Gano was hurt the last 2 years and now hurt again.  If he wants top dollar he needs to be on the field.

I hope Slye continues to prove himself and makes this a competition over the next couple weeks.

Panthers' camp observations: 1. Pro Bowl DL Kawann Short left practice early after being hit in the shin. Doesn't appear serious. 2. fun battle of the day: WR Curtis Samuel caught a perfect deep sideline pass from Cam Newton after he got slightly behind starting CB James Bradberry; Bradberry got in front of Samuel to knock down a pass in the end zone later; 3. PK Joey Slye, who was 3-for-3 on field goals in Thursday's exhibition opener, handled all the kicking duties as Graham Gano continued to nurse a sore knee. Something to keep an eye on; 4. The red zone defense did a number on the first-team offense on the last team drill; 5. TE Ian Thomas, who suffered a rib injury on Thursday, did not practice. Neither did RB Jordan Scarlett (back), who is losing ground to undrafted rookie Elijah Holyfield.

  1.

Have to give it to the defense, they just dominated a red zone period. Cam just held the ball to the whistle on one rep - couldn’t find anyone open.

  2.

Great rep by the defense in red zone. Had every receiver covered up. Cam just had to stand in the pocket and pat the ball.

That just means it would have been another rushing TD for QB1.

    • My biggest fear with Bryce Young is that he will always do just enough to stick around. He shows flashes and then drops a turd so the hopium is always there. Like his career highlight reel if you cut it up to some hype music and did a YouTube video would actually be quite good. His great plays really, really look good. But after that video you look at his yearly averages for completion percentage, yardage, touchdowns, and virtually every other metric and it is meh as fug. Like you know Bryce is gonna be 13/23 for 157 yards a touchdown and probably a pick.  I will 100% give him his flowers for his athleticism and ability to scramble outside the pocket. I haven’t seen the mythical “super processing ability” he was touted for per se, but he has shown flashes of absolutely elite awareness when it comes to scrambling. The little basketball move he does to shake defensive linemen has almost become a signature move. It’s hard to explain but you know it when you see it he stops on a dime and pivots like he is gonna hit a step back jumper and it has gotten him out of a lot of trouble.  I sincerely, truly, as a vocal Bryce HATER, hope that since we are obviously running with him next year the coaching staff actually tailors plays around his strengths. He needs to be in a pure spread IMO. His size is much less of a hindrance when he can play QB in open space. I feel like most of his highlight reel is from scrambles and play action/bootlegs.
