Panthers Starters To Play Tonight

Surprised there isnt a topic on this considering this was released 2 days ago

Apparently all the starters(minus Gano) will play tonight.  Ron says he is looking for 3-4 good series and go from there.  Also says Allen is still number 2.  I have been against playing Cam in the preseason, but if you are going to play him, this feels like the right spot.  3_4 series feels like a quarter and a half at most to me, should it be a whole half?

Man the starters need to play the entire 1st half, they have to get in game/football/cardio shape for the regular season. Whatever you wanna call it. I've seen it happen, year after year, the 1st regular season NFL game and the players are gassed @ halftime because the lack of Preseason reps. RON PLAY THE F'IN STARTERS

We're playing the Rams Week 1 who for the most part aren't playing any of their starters all preseason...

And I disagree with your assertion about being gassed... I think generally the other team is struggling more b/c the Panthers practice in the Spartanburg heat and humidity.  The Cowboys looked way more gassed Week 1 last year b/c even though they are based in TX, their training camp is in CA.

At this point, the Panthers probably have one of the most rigorous training camps allowed by the CBA.  If anything, the Panthers are going to have an advantage Week 1 b/c the Rams practice in CA and will have to not only come East but also deal with the heat of humidity of early September in the Carolinas.

Will it make a difference in Week 1 this year?  Who knows, but the reason the Panthers starters are playing tonight has nothing to do with conditioning.  It is to see where they stack up versus the defending Super Bowl Champions.

Tonight is about being a measuring stick for how prepared the team is from a coordination standpoint, not a conditioning standpoint.

Idk, I like the approach this year. Knock on wood we have had no major injuries, and 3-4 series is enough for our starters. They are professional athletes, and have been busting ass all summer working out and going through a rough training camp. The difference in 3-4 series and playing the entire first half will not change being in football shape. Remember that Cam cracked his rib in preseason game a few years back. It only takes one play for a major injury to happen in a meaningless game for us all to play the what if game and in return call for Rons head.

    • No it's not, there isn't a single coach who's only job is to win games, because no coach is going to win games unless they're also improving the quality of play out of their players. For coaches with contending teams, winning is their #1 job, but I think it's a more than reasonable take to say that coaches of not yet contending teams winning comes second to making your players better. We have 11 games left, if you gave me the option of winning all 11 of the games in terribly ugly fashion to where we don't improve the quality of our players vs we lose all 11 games, but do so in spectacular fashion where our players show significant improvement, I'm taking option B every time. Because option B is the path to future and long term success, while option A is a path to short term happiness at the expense of long term franchise stability.   And yes, that is clearly an extreme example that could never actually play out in either way, but you still know what I mean.  And no, it has nothing to do with draft position, it's about how good will these players be a year, 2 years, 3 years, etc, down the line, when you hope to be a true contending team, because nobody actually thinks we're that type of team this year unless you're literally crazy
    • Yeah if that's what we're signing up for here, then I just can't get behind it.  That contract extension that Hurney gave Jake that offseason was BRUTAL.
    • That's quite literally his only job. Every year has new goals, new identities, etc. But the one constant is to win at all costs. He isn't guaranteed to be here next year UNLESS he wins. Why would he give a poo to mold a bunch of players someone else might be coaching?
