Ron out here talking about "we're good" with backup QB's lol

Ron’s job is on the line this season. Can we all stop crying and let it play out? I know every fan thinks that if your starting QB goes down you should have a Nick Foles waiting in the background, but that is extremely rare. We win or lose this year with Cam. I expect a bad season for our competition as well if Matt Ryan, Brees, or Winston goes down. We are less than two weeks out and we have a vet, and two young qbs we are developing (who already know Norvs complex playbook).

Not sure it's great for team morale to announce publicly 2 weeks before the season starts, "Yeah we know our backup qb situation sucks, but what you gonna do?"

He has said in his interviews that he's not happy with the performance of the backups in the preseason. But at this point, you're probably better off rolling with what you have, hoping Cam stays healthy and the backups get better with time in the meanwhile and if that fails, figuring out plan B next offseason. Bringing in someone last minute is either going to be a qb who can't even make the preseason roster of any of the 32 teams who doesn't know the playbook and has no guarantees of being any better than what we have or we have to give up valuable draft capital for someone else's backup who still has to learn our playbook and has no guarantees of being better than what we have.

This is absurd. This is what happens when you keep a coach too long. They get too comfortable. Too content.

What is absurd is expecting him to say anything else. Even if Hurney was on the phone as we speak Ron would be supporting who we have until the new guy got here. Do you really believe everything you read or hear?

Its not about winning or losing. Obviously you lose you starting qb your season is done, but atleast get a back up qb who can complete a pass over 20 yards. Derek Anderson could. He also could win a game or 2. These 2? Forget about it

Derek Anderson was 2-2 as a starter, his only wins being against the McCown led 2-14 TB Bucs (2014).  Is that really a ringing endorsement?  Grier/Allen could have won those games.

In 2016 he also started two games.  Against the Falcons and Bucs, and lost both.

Grier/Allen not beating any regular season opponents this year.

We have 2 QBs not named Cam under contract who have been in the system for over a year. That's not a bad place to be for backups.

The last time he said we were “good” at a position, we signed Eric Reid the next day.

   Just sayin...

    • Kalkbrenner and Sion James received regular contracts and not two ways, so the Hornets have some work to do to cut the roster size down.
    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
