Gano might not kick all preseason

RR said today that Slye would definitely kick Thursday. Not sure yet about Gano.  Wtf. Gano wasn’t kicking at practice yesterday I think.   If Gano hasn’t kicked all preseason we are not gonna cut Slye.

Could Gano be going to IR?   That means we will have to keep 2 guys on the original 53 and then move Gano 24 hrs later.

Im starting to really question whether Gano would even make it through the season.

Would we outright cut him?

Man, why didn’t we just keep Butker. Piles of cap space saved and a K not hurt in 3 of 4 seasons.

And it's not like it was "hindsight is 20-20" either. If you go back and read threads about it at the time, I would say a majority of us wanted us to keep Butker and cut Gano.

But now we are paying him top kicker money to miss clutch kicks/XPs and is always hurt. Sad.

I am ready to part ways with Gano. Stats may say he is good but when it comes to kicking a game winning field goal or heck, even a PAT, I don’t trust him.  Give Slye the chance.

We dont really gain anything cap wise by cutting him. Stash em on IR, if Slye is serviceable we wont even have to bring him back. If he's a disaster then we will have to hope Gano gets Healthy. Obviously cut him after this season. He has no GTD money after this year.

Good point, I agree!

He has 3M in dead money after this year.

IR looks like the best call. If Sly chokes we can reactivate him and if not we can cut him in the offseason. The biggest negative with IRing a kicker is we have to carry him on the roster for a day which is a spot that should go to a guy we don't want to expose to other teams. I guess we could IR him now and see if another team makes a move on him?

    • Welp, he just joined Parsons in Green Bay.
    • That was always the fear, expectation, concern, etc, I had.  Someone showed a still shot from his pick last game and said it showed that the defender closed 3 yards on that ball in the last portion of its flight. I forget the number. 10 yards I think it said but that sounds extreme.  When guys are open by a step, any slowing down to wait for the ball lets the defender back into the play. That sort of stuff makes the margins so small… these NFL CBs are not slow.   It is a league that highly values foot speed; the 40 times and drill times are scrutinized down to the hundredth of a second when evaluating these players on both sides of the passing game. Receivers and defenders both.   My thing with his arm strength (or anyone’s) was always “why do you want to do that? Plus pay extra picks to put yourself in that situation?”. Asking for trouble.     I wish there was a way to measure velocity on the back half of a throw compared to when it left the hand. Or really get accurate reading of the flight time of a ball from the near hash to the sideline, 10 yards down the field. Because teams could use that info. I have always seen this as being a disadvantage with Bryce but it is beyond my ability to quantify it.   I think it would show what that arm strength is really about, a lot more than just measuring how much air can you put under it so it will fly as far as possible.
