What to do in Charlotte (for us out of towners)

The first thing to know about Charlotte is that it's not a city.  Its a small town that got out of hand.  There isn't really any planning involved or stuff to do, but its big.

I would recommend the Cajun Queen for some out of this world creole cooking. The Open Kitchen for the best Italian food, or the Capital Grille if you want to spend all your money at once.

Kids will love the Discovery Place and the museums others have mentioned.  Since you're here you could check out the Billy Graham Library.  All in all its a great place to live just not much to visit.

Personally, I think there are several interesting things to do in Charlotte and the surrounding area.  Many of them have already been mentioned, but if you want to rent a car and get out the immediate city, there are some interesting things to do.

You can rent jet skis at Lake Norman.

If you are a history buff, then Kings Mountain and Cowpens are nearbye.

If you want to do some hiking, Chimney Rock state park isn't very far away.

If you want to sit around and drink craft beer, probably not the best place to go.
