2020 NFL Draft

So, I love the draft and all the scouting/analysis that goes into it but I'm absolutely floored regarding what the "experts" are saying about our beloved Panthers. Maybe I'm missing something but a lot of them keep picking a Wide Receiver for the Panthers in the first round. CBS has us taking a corner (something I wouldn't love or hate) which would be nice to slide Jackson into the slot and have Bradberry and a first round talent as your bookends of the secondary. Another site has us taking a DT.

My question is this, if we're picking around 16th (current projection) who do you take or at the very least what position should be addressed?

I think OL has to be our top priority, followed by Safety, and then DL or WR. While we haven't been making splashes in Free Agency, I would like to see us address WR through the FA route instead of taking another one early in the 2020 draft. The only wide receiver that I think is a first round quality without any doubts is Jerry Jeudy (yet another talent from the Turds of Tuscaloosa). He looks better than Calvin Ridley coming out of college.

If there's anyway we could use our first round pick on a OL and trade up to get Derrick Brown for a DT we'd be sitting pretty.

You find your top needs and draft BPA out of that group

What would you say our needs are then?

We need a wide receiver to go along with Moore. Samuel isnt the answer. He can be a 3rd option at best but nothing more. Give me Ceedee Lamb.

I like Ceedee Lamb as well but more important than OL?

Right now its early

How is Little going to come back.  If Daley keeps improving, im not as worried about drafting a OL early.

WR isnt as big a need, Chuck just loves throwing out WRs.  He was all aboard freaking out about N'keal Harry this past draft.

IMO, mine in order

S, CB, DL

FS has always been a major weakness and to the point that we had to grab Tre Boston from the radio booth at WFNZ during camp just to start.

Obviously Delpit at LSU would be awesome but he will go early.  The guy im watching now is Xavier McKinney, the Bama safety.  VERY VERY similar to Minkah Fitzpatrick except a hard hitter and possibly better athlete.  Can come down and cover the slot too.

CB, Bradberry isnt locked down yet.  DJax has his big flashes but same time has shown big whiffs.  Very inconsistent.  Plus with the way the NFL is moving to a more passing league.  You need more than 2 good CBs.  Also this CB is looking to be shaping out to be stacked.

DL, McCoy is a FA, Butler too. Poe will be going into the last year of his contract.  And KK coming off shoulder surgery

Sadly it also depends on how Cam plays coming back from injury

As mentioned above gotta see if Little is able to that guy going forward. Imagine Darryl is gone this year so I wouldn't mind guard if it's not a reach. If Ron's still here safety is a pipe dream. WR2 would be fine with me if someone drops but again don't want to reach. Would love cheap DT/DE. I def think BPA is the way to go however

Depending on how Cam looks if he comes back and if not how Kyle plays I’ll still be looking hard at QBs. Wouldn’t definitely take one early but if there’s someone there with the potential of a Watson or Mahomes that we like (neither were top 9 picks) then I’d be all for that and even would trade up for one if we think he could be like a Mahomes.

It's not a great draft for IOL. @ncfan is right-get safety, so long overdue. Of course what we want and what we get may be two different things.

@Zeek I'm gonna disagree  WR could be a big consideration. Let's be truthful. Take away CMC and where is our red zone threat, especially at WR? Olsen may be almost done. Samuel and Moore have 1 TD each 5 games in. For a #1 and #2 that doesn't impress me at all. I don't think either are technicians they are both athletes who do the damage after the catch. I'd love to see a guy who could actually beat people on routes or make contested catches  It's a strong WR draft upcoming.

We just took a QB with a top 100 pick

We aren't drafting a QB .....before round 5.

Unless, Rivera and Hurney both get fired.

I do think we need to address free safety, once and for all ... we could do so much better than Boston.

Either way it's gotta be BPA. Maybe the stars align. But that's just me.

    • Ummm not sure adding anther 5'9 180 pound soaking wet forward is the way to go here.....
    • What has happened in HS athletics busted full force into the college world with this NIL/transfer portal stuff. HS sports has been jacked up for a long time now. You have all these "prep schools" that are basically just diploma mills for athletes who hoover up all the good athletes they can get and they're all on scholarship. Then they go out and recruit decent athletes with rich parents to come onboard and pay outrageous tuition while they tout their success at getting their athletes college scholarships. Yeah, those athletes getting college scholarships are the same ones you're giving scholarships to so that you can use them to recruit the rich kids whose parents can pay for it all. You see the same thing in youth travel ball leagues. The whole thing is just getting crazy.
    • It's your right to refer to it as vague, but it still flouts the theory of "zero evidence" that Tepper is changing. Here's another: "Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales and general manager Dan Morgan are reportedly being given a larger leadership role within the organization. Panthers owner David Tepper 'has taken a more hands-off approach of late,' according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. 'He's trying to trust Canales and GM Dan Morgan to get it right, knowing that the roster requires patience in its current state,' Fowler wrote. 'We shall see if he holds to that.'" https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10146782-report-panthers-david-tepper-has-taken-a-more-hands-off-approach-to-team   ""David Tepper just wants to win and he's gonna supply everything that we need to win.. Things are changing around here and things are looking really positive" ~ Dan Morgan  https://x.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/1917639137550627107?t=6vgo8yXTO6eD0Gb55hyzNg&s=19   From about 2:15-6:35, Julian Council, Locked on Panthers, gives his take on whether Tepper seems to be changing (and specifically referenced the war room in his analysis):    Dean Jones of Cat Crave on David Tepper in the war room. "He was an innocent bystander throughout a hugely important decision, placing full trust in Morgan and Tilis to make the right call." Jones also quoted Pat McAfee: "What I noticed though, at one point, they looked at (David) Tepper to get an answer, Tepper didn’t say sh*t. All anybody has said about Tepper is that he’s hands-on, hands-on, hands-on. Too handsy, too involved. He’s not letting the football people do their thing. We just watched in the biggest moment for their franchise, a top ten pick, he just sat there and let everybody do their jobs. I think if you’re a Panthers fan, you love everything you saw there." https://catcrave.com/silence-from-david-tepper-becomes-panthers-loudest-victory Granted, you're not getting a major headline here, but that's not going to happen anyway. Fowler isn't exactly a nobody, everybody knows McAfee, and you also have some locals that follow the team (including Dean Jones). Of course you have a right to believe that Tepper hasn't really changed, but to say there is no evidence that he just may be changing is not really true. It's just not. Hate the guy, but the way that he has handled this current regime is different than he handled previous teams, and his silence in the war room and publicly in general is different than years back.
