I don't think we can bench Kyle Allen...

I would like to see our overall points off of turnovers stats. We're second in the NFL in takeaways with 15 (trailing only NE with 16). Of those 15, 14 have come in the last four games. Allen is playing well, but I guarantee you that a ton of our points are coming off off turnovers.

We're a little bit of false gold right now with Allen. Yes, 4-0 looks good but averaging 3.5 takeaways per game isn't sustainable. Even before Jameis did his best Oprah impression of everyone gets a turnover, we were still averaging 2.3 takeaways per game with Allen starting at QB. That takeaway rate would've led the NFL last year.

This has been a great overall team effort and Allen has been a big part of that, but with CMC putting up otherworldly stats and our D forcing turnovers at a mind boggling rate... all I'm saying is don't fall in love just yet. When (if) Cam gets healthy, he'll be back in and it's the right call.

Rams suck this year and we beat a really good Houston team at their place with KA

Yep. The same team that went into Arrowhead and beat the high powered Chiefs. Our Texans win was legit and KA was able to come up clutch with the spin on Watt, something Mahomes couldn't do. :shades:

I think it's this simple. Allen is a fine game manger.. he wont lose u the game but I haven't seen any evidence he can win you shootouts. Yes we are scoring points in bunches but a lot of factors go into that that aren't named kyle allen.

Cmc is playing a record pace. Half our touchdowns of the allen era have come from there. This team is a Ferrari that practically drives itself.. Remember with Cam on one foot we lost to the Rams by a single touchdown and similar  with the bucs.. Allen is healthy game manager  driving the car exceptionally well. We have yet to see how that car is driven by a healthy Cam..

As much of you guys like Allen is ceiling just isn't higher than a healthy Newton. Can he return to form? Who knows but we would be foolish not to find out and let him walk for Allen.. the Saints are winning and cruising with Teddy Bridgewater and nobody is saying "let's move on when drew comes back". The Patriots find a Kyle Allen every other year but Brady is never an after thought. They fleece whoever's is selling to pay top dollar and fortify for the future.

You drafted Grier as the Cam is hurt plan so at worst if you ship Allen off you have that in the wings. But you don't leave a former MVP in his prime untested not truly knowing if he is done for a player of Allen's caliber you just dont.

I'm with Josh Norris on this one..20191013_194008.thumb.jpg.628a508c91079c72b4cd63b3e99dc1f5.jpg

7 turnovers really helps with scoring.286 yards won't equal 37 points very often. 20 points came off turnovers.

Yeah but this isnt right context. We played small ball starting with 5 mins left in the 3rd quarter. Also we had some short fields with the TOs....and CMAC had an off game. Most of those yards are through the air.

Its called... we're up 34 to 10 let's just chew clock.

I don't think CMC had an off game. The Bucs came into both games with a clear game plan of not letting CMC beat them... and he still got into the endzone twice. The Bucs selling out to contain CMC opened opportunities elsewhere. I just wish we would counter that. Want to focus on CMC? Fine. Start playing two RBs and motion CMC out wide. Can't focus on CMC and stack the box at the same time.

I actually agree. I miss worded. He was a fine decoy and still picked up two TDs.

What I meant is...he didnt have his typical yardage output.

    • No you dont.  He had all those records for years before his final season. Whether career or season he had them all years before his final season in which he played 6 games.
    • Williams covered for Moore by saying they were on the wrong page about Moores specific route. Williams could have easily covered for him by saying he messed up. Suggesting only 1 route was ever intended to be a viable target is absurd.
    • I am going to agree with Linville this time--I think we need to get a veteran edge (We have Jones II, Scourton, and Princely--2 developmental guys and a decent veteran).  We don't really think of Jones because he had a hamstring injury weeks 3 and 4 and a back that required surgery Week 6-17.  He still managed 10 pressures, and he will be 28.  Princely Umanmielen only played in approximately 18-20% of the snaps and he struggled at times.  Basically, he was a situational pass rusher.  He got 1.5 sacks and 10 pressures.  He should improve, but for now, he is what he is.  Scourton gives us hope.  For a rookie (and thanks to Jones II's injuries, he was given more PT), he had 8 sacks--and held the edge.  He played at a first-round draft pick level.  He has the potential to become "that guy" in 2026. We lose Wonnum, who played nearly 700 snaps and amassed 3 whole sacks.  For a person raised a Gamecock, I would not be upset if we purged our roster of all South Carolina alumni.   However, I see it this way:  Wonnum was decent holding the edge, something Patrick Jones II and Scourton have demonstrated at a high level.  He is a liability, if you ask me.    Jones had 7 sacks one season in Minnesota and is known for his inside rushing ability--not what you would call a speed rusher.  I think Princely was a bit disappointing, but he was a bit raw.  Out of college, they described him as being a bit predictable.  I see no reason he will not improve in 2026 and become a situational pass rusher.   Basically, with Scourton and Princely expected to continue to develop and Jones II returning from injury, I think we need another veteran (if we can get a good one) to give us balance and depth.  A third developmental player is not ideal.   Draft:  OT, LB, WR, OL depth, S. Free Agency:  Edge, possibly a WR;  re-sign Mays, Cuhran, BC (??), and Nijman.  Let walk:  Wonnum, Scott, Dowdle.  I see about $20m per year after signing the OL depth.  Spend it on a veteran edge.   Players like Reddick (Tampa), Bosa (Buffalo), Khalil Mack (LAC) could be available on a one or two year deal in the $15m range.  We could splurge here, but I think a veteran situational pass rusher (depending on Jones II's back) is all we need while our 2 young guns develop.
