It’s almost guaranteed that Cam goes to IR at this point, unfortunately.

Probably the best decision for all parties honestly. Sounds like December at the earliest so at that point we are either out of the playoffs and it would be dumb to put him in or we are in the playoff fight and you’re pulling the guy that played a large part in us getting there for someone who would be incredibly rusty.

Cam going out there and looking bad would lower the potential trade value he could have and hurt the value of his next contract. He could go out and look great obviously but the odds of that seem pretty low with as much time as he will have missed.

IR him. Whenever he gets another shot there needs to be no doubt that we gave him as time as we could. Re-evaluate if we make it to the playoffs.

If he goes on IR, I seriously doubt he comes back this season, even for the playoffs if we make them.

I wouldn’t IR him if there’s a chance he’s 100% at any time this year. Look at 2015 Broncos... Peyton was terrible and hurt for a while and Osweiler came in and got them some huge wins, including against the Pats. Then he struggled a bit and they needed Peyton back (even a limited Peyton) to win in the playoffs. That’s within the realm of possibility here too.

You could IR him and designate him.  Means he could play the postseason if we made it.   Seems like the smartest call IMO.

Love this idea. Would also remove the distraction for the rest of the season while also letting Cam come back if he were to get healthy.

I think it's worth designating him on the chance that he's completely recovered by then but I wouldn't sweat it. I'd rather he sit out the rest of the year if it meant he'd be right next season. Leave our options open.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
