Males care about soccer. But they also drink soy lattes and wear man buns.

It's a sport for women and those not athletic enough to play anything else.

It's fine if you don't care for a sport. I played soccer as a kid and them became far more enamored of basketball as I got a little older. I don't watch soccer and I'm not particularly invested in it, but to say it doesn't require athleticism to play at a high level is pretty far from the truth. In terms of the athletic ability required, it's pretty much in line with football, it just entails less physical violence. Speed, agility, hand eye cordination, leaping ability, body control, these things are all necessary for competitive soccer, and endurance is most certainly there, players almost never stop moving.

The lack of scoring compared to other team sports just imo makes it less interesting to watch as a casual fan, so I don't have any burning desire to go to an MLS game, but that's completely separate from whether it requires athleticism to play, which it does. Water polo requires ungodly athleticism and endurance to play really well, it's just boring as poo to watch, so no one watches it.

Yes, anyone who doesn't think soccer requires athleticism just doesn't understand the sport or is a miserable troll.

As for the lack of scoring relative to many other sports, I personally find that more exciting. The less of something there is, the more value it has. Scoring or conceding a goal is an intense moment that isn't devalued by an (relatively) easy response.

Yep I hate it. I think it's an abomination on this country.

Things that get my blood boiling

Hurting kids/special needs/elderly

Human/civil rights violations

Do you seriously not see a problem in grouping soccer with those other things, lol. Why am I even talking to you?

Maybe in your suburban village. Travel outside of the United States (Europe, South America, Africa particularly) and you'll realize it's the opposite.

Hey a soccer thread. I hate soccer so I will participate in this thread!

But yeah the lack of scoring means every goal is massive. And rarely is there a boring goal (at least at the pro level). You have to wind your way through 10 guys and get it past a guy who can use his hands. It's like...hard. So you usually end up with great creativity. Like this.

You also learn to watch the game away from the ball. Creating and closing space. Stuff like that.

As a side note the world cup returns to North America in 2026. There are three hosts and FIFA hasn't decided if all three will get automatic berths. Also it is being expanded from 32 to 48 teams. I would like to think Charlotte would get a game.

I've genuinely given soccer a good long look. Back when the US first had a shot at The World Cup (boy, that's been a while now) and people were going nuts about it, I tried watching to see if I could spur an interest.

I just couldn't.

It's probably for the same reason that I don't really like the NBA all that much. It's a lot of the same thing back and forth, over and over. With football there's more variety as to what can happen.

I get that it's constant action and all, but I actually like the way football is paced a lot better.

Horrible point.

They eat cats and dogs in other countries.

They marry 12 year olds in other countries.

The NC womens team just won a national championship, yet nobody brings that up.

In America, people marry their cousins and pedophilia is practiced.
