Tepper speaks

Captain Morgan

Recommended Posts

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper met with local media tonight to discuss a variety of topics on background. As Tepper has stated publicly, long-term success is the main focus for him as he continues decision-making processes on and off the field.

Those decisions - whether football or business - will not be instantaneous. That might sound vague, but it actually provides some clarity on a variety of on-field topics.

He said no LONG term mediocrity. Didn’t explain what his definition of long term is. Nothing he said insinuates that he’s firing anyone.

One could also take that to mean the longterm mediocrity that has plagued this organization, like the later Fox years and now Rivera.  Don't be such a pessimist, but I understand, we've been conditioned to deal with sucking.

Panthers' training camp next year could still be at Wofford -- the team has told Wofford it will let them know at February. But Tepper also said training camp could simply be in Charlotte; noted there are dorms at Johnson & Wales.

Tepper seemed most concerned about the Panthers' long-term mediocrity -- referenced several times that the team is slightly below .500 in a 25-year period and that just wasn't acceptable.

Panthers owner David Tepper had a for-context-not-for-direct quote session with reporters today, but he made one exception for his quote about losing: "Every time we have a loss, my mood is shitty."

Love that quote. The fans feel the same

Most teams haven't been to two Super Bowls in the last 25 years, and I'm pretty sure no other expansion team has.

Most teams have had back to back winning seasons sometime in their existence (Im not sure if any have not other than us). I mean the super bowls were nice, would have been even nicer to win one, but for us to fill up our stadium we need to give people a reason to watch every year not every other couple of years.

A google search of "nfl teams without back to back winning seasons" Only brings up the carolina panthers, that is terrible.

Health is the 1st order of business for Cam Newton. Tepper has not heard whether he will have surgery to repair Lisfranc injury. Adamant that each party does what is best for themselves. Wofford will be informed of training camp decision by Feb.,relationship there is valued.

It's easy to be cynical as a sports fan, and certainly I'm frustrated by this year and the overall lack of any semblance of sustained success over the last 25 years, but over half (and maybe closer to 20) of the other teams in the league would trade our success for their own over that time period.

I will never be satisfied until we finally win a Lombardi (and then in true sports-fan form, I will probably not be satisfied w/o a second), but this team and franchise has never been the dumpster fire than some "fans" want to make us out to be anytime there is a bad season.

Just as we haven't had sustained success, we really haven't had prolonged periods of being awful either.  Certainly we;ve bottomed out twice (2001 & 2010), but in both cases we went to a SB afterwards within 5 years.
