Director of College Scouting: Marty Hurney

Don't freak out guys.  Marty may get a VP/consulting title and could get this role.  The good thing is, that with a new GM and scouts hired by a Colbert/etc. under him, he will be checked on both ends!

We are good. Goooooood.

An entirely new system is coming from top down folks.  Brace in for an crazy upcoming ride.

Whoever doesn't go #1 between Herbert and Burrow is now a legit target if we go 6-10 or 5-11.  Tepper will want to make a SPLASH at HC as well but don't think of some retread name.  Brace yourselves.  As Saxy hinted at with the Fire Rivera thread, Scott is being given a chance and Rivera is gone.  Hold on.  Hold on for one more day.

Mentioned elsewhere that even if a change in title doesn't occur, it does sound like a change in assigned duties will.

What's also likely to change is the scouting department. Pretty good chance it's going to be cleared out and remade.

For the most part, Marty built that department. He probably won't enjoy saying goodbye to some of the people he put in place.

Dont see us going QB

He is going to make dam well sure the trenches are fixed.  I remember him mentioning the OL last offseason, and it has been a disaster this season.

If Marty is strictly in charge of who the Panthers draft in the 1st round, that is great and I'm all about that. Outside of that I don't really see a role for him.

Yeah Ryan Kalil sucked.  Greg Hardy, Charles Johnson, Gary Barniage and Josh Norman too.  Others too.

My personal belief is Kellen Mond being a target for us in 2020.  He's going to return to school (there is a chance he just leaves this year) but he has really interesting potential.

I agree. Having a structure of checks and balances around Hurney is a good thing.

Let's face it, the guy is apparently a joy to work with and can make some solidn choices every now and again.  He needs to be checked with receivers and secondary in particular.

If you have to hire people to control him is he really worth keeping?  Why not just hire a guy capable of, you know, doing his job?

Honestly after watching the interview with Tepper, I like his approach of having more than one guy at the top. If it’s my money, sure, I’d like to have one guy to pay, but if Tepper is willing to have specialist roles on the payroll, then that’s fine by me.

I'm fine with more than one guy calling the shots but none of them need to be Hurndog.  I just can't get over this unsettling development.

    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
    • this one is gold:     Bryce has a cult inside the Panthers fanbase that has truly developed some NPC hivemind. I'll never understand how he's captured the true essence of the casual fan like that.
    • "everybody has to earn it, heading in the right direction, feel great about him, get it done at the right time"     Mother fuger
