Can we rebuild quickly without the 20 million cap savings?

Without the 20 million dollar cap savings via Cam's contract, can they rebuilt the team within a couple of years? I hope Cam recovers and gets a shot to show he still has it. Make it tough on Tepper to not resign him.

What would you do if Cam balls out and they keep him?  How would you go about adding the players needed (Oline,Dline), and resign FA's with the available resources they would have....or will Tepper drop Cam regardless to get the extra cap space to rebuild?

How would you go about doing this without the cap space?

We will have enough space without doing anything with Cam to begin with.

Poe will be gone. Olsen is likely gone. A few others will be gone (Moncrief, Davis) that we don't even use and who will have no negative cap impact.

We can have around $60 Million without doing anything with Cam's contract.

Let him heal up. Let him return to the starting line up. If he balls out, extend him or get more in a trade for him. If he flops, his deal is up anyways and we can take whatever we can get for him before the trade deadline.

I would see if cincinatti or miami would be willing to trade their pick for our first rounder and cam newron so that we can draft burrow. Probabky a long shot though since both of those teams probably want burrow themselves.

Burrow is not worth a high first rounder and I doubt he’ll be a true franchise QB. This year sucks for QBs. If we’re gonna tank for a QB next year is the time, with Lawrence and Fields.

people are overstating the need for a rebuild. the only thing that needs rebuilt are our o and d lines. our core is already young.

Biggest problem is we don’t have a QB unless Cam somehow magically gets to 100% and gets his arm strength back which is seeming unlikely. I say we keep Cam and see what he can offer next year, and if he can’t do much to help us win then we do a full on tank for Lawrence or Fields. I can live with another 2010 like year if it gets us Lawrence.

it won't take magic, lisa frank surgeries don't take that long to recover from, and his shoulder has had this full season of rest. i think it's likely he's healthy and prime shape next year.

I disagree with you on this one.

We have nothing to build around on the offensive line, defensive line, or secondary that are currently signed long term.

We have major questions at QB and TE, and we have some issues at WR and LB.

This team is in pretty bad shape currently.

Can we rebuild quickly without a quarterback? The answer is no.

How long will it take to find a quarterback that's above average if Cam leaves? On average, maybe 5 years if we invest a lot, and don't get stuck in a situation like Miami with Tannehill. It's so fuging hard to find a quarterback. Honestly, we should keep Cam, and keep drafting mid-late round quarterbacks. We should take a shot at quarterback every year at this point.

    • Yeah, honestly being a long-term backup is at least as much about being a good lockerroom presence and accepting your role as a supporting piece and not being a greasy wheel as much as it does about ability. Backup QB requires a completely different mindset than the starter and some guys just can't make that switch. It doesn't make them bad guys or locker room cancers or anything like that, it just makes them not what you're looking for in a long-term backup. You bring in that type of guy to compete. You don't bring in that type of guy if you're not looking for competition.
    • Im saying its Tar Heel fans who would do that. I root for all Panthers to succeed regardless but college affiliation means zero to me
    • We have some good pieces.  Enough to be competitive week to week.  Coaching seems to be improving but they’ve made it much harder on themselves than needed.  There are very good reasons to be optimistic about the future. However, I don’t trust them yet.  Wins are odd looking and mostly ugly.  Our opponents have to have a bad day for us to hang with them.  A lot of that is because we still haven’t figured out the most important position and will continue until it’s solved. I think Morgan has done a nice job in both the draft and FA so far.  He’s getting better each day he’s in that position. As far as the players listed, I’m pretty much in agreement.  XL and Bryce are not performing the way they should at this point.  I will say XL could see more success in a vertical passing attack to better utilize his speed. And as always, Fug Tepper.
