1. There are 7 rounds.

2. Draft everything you need next year

3. ?????

4. Profit

How much production did we get out of this year's draft? Or last year's outside of the first round for that matter?

The guy who did those two drafts is probably doing the next one as well.

Im on the wrong side of 50 with a BP problem.

You dont get to play the old man card on me

(and to hell with Drew Brees who got the record setting TD while I typed this)

Get out of my recliner, then.

(that may not have made sense but it was all I could think of)

chicken or egg? Just look at the Colts tonight for example. The Colts aren’t winning a lot of games and is getting blown out tonight by the Saints. And they have their #6 pick and pro bowler Quenton Nelson. The Colts would be a much better team this season and tonight if they had “Andrew Luck”. QBs throw TDs and win games. The key piece of the team.  OL is just one of the other parts to success.

So let's assume for a moment that we're starting a full on rebuild next year.

The general belief is that such a rebuild starts by getting your chosen quarterback. "But hang on," some folks interject, "What good is a quarterback if we can't protect him? He'd get slaughtered behind our line."

I've seen some pretty strong opinions both ways, so here's a chance for advocates on either side to make their case.

Do you start by drafting a quarterback next year or do you build up an offensive line and get a placeholder with an eye toward getting that franchise QB when you know you can protect him?

Show your math.

If we are going to go FULL rebuild? I'd probably trade Luke, CMC and Cam. If we can get 2-3 1st round draft picks and some other draft capital, start building up the interior of both of the lines. There is no reason to jettison bad contracts in a rebuilding mode, so guys with bloated contracts can stay to soak up cap.

With a bunch of additional draft capital in 2020 and 2021(I am making the assumption we are not able to trade all three players prior to the 2020 draft and/or that we got future draft picks as well), finding an elite QB prospect is priority #1. By that I mean, if an ELITE QB prospect is available in 2020, select him. Don't trade up in the draft, however. As a team we need as many of those draft picks as possible. We will have enough draft capital to put some good prospects on the offensive line, and we have enough pieces there(Little, Daley, GVR, Moton) that we should be able to form a solid two deep. Same goes with the DL, start building in the trenches.

If it's a FULL rebuild we are probably letting a guy like Bradberry walk depending on price tag. If he is affordable, bring basically the entire secondary back, which should be adequate with some tweaks(Reid is likely here for a year or two due to the contract). At that point in 2-3 seasons we have some WR talent, some secondary talent, rebuilt OL and DL(perhaps not complete but close), a young QB to build around and then you attempt to fix the other obvious roster holes through free agency.

Justl ooking at 1st round investment....Browns took O-linemen in the first in 2007 and 2009, and pretty much did as well as you could've hoped with those picks.  Joe Thomas and Alex Mack.  They then took 3 QB's in the first until 2014. Brady Quinn, Brandon Weeden, Manziel. We see how that has worked out for them.

QB first.

Depends on what the best value is when it is your time to pick.

You don't take an "iffy" QB, just because you think you might need one.  Same with an OT you have ranked in the mid 20's.

If we pick at 9, you take the best QB, OT, or DT(depending on whether or not we have a clue as to what D we might be running)  Better to get a great player at one of these positions rather than reach like you are drafting in the mid teens.  If nothing great is there, then trade back to the mid teens and go through the process again

MATH— Making America Think Again. I love it.

whether Cam is back 100% or 70%, or we draft a guy like Tua or not, it’s going to be hard for them.

anyway, personally I feel we have to get the offensive line like Dallas. Say what you want to about Jerry Jones but he skipped on a lot of fan loving picks and did the unpopular thing.

Dak was like a 3rd round pick right?

Their offensive line is built to last like the 90s and Dak has all the time he needs to look like a star. Elliott and now their rookie draft pick look great too— their rookie pick is made to look like a poor mans CMac because that line looks great.

they have Their vet tightend in Witten— we have in Olsen and we should bring him back. Thomas sucks.

we have DJ, and they have Amari but if they can’t keep Amari then I’m all about us going and getting Amari to bring in and replace Samuel with a real option.

If we are not going to retain Poe or McCoy or both then we also need to draft some DT.

so OT, OG, DT, DT, and bring in Amari Cooper,

on the flip side of that, you shouldnt or don’t often have a top 10 pick to go get a quarterback with. If it did happen that we were top 10, it’s a tough flip on a real OT or quarterback.  Quite a few OT the last few years From the first round have busted. Colleges running the spread make it hard to judge talent.

You have to build an excellent O-line first. Strong, skilled offensive lines let you dictate the game to the opponents rather than play a take what they give, beat the rush game.

A mediocre QB behind a great line can win a Superb Owl.

A legendary QB behind a poor offensive line ends up on IR.

You build your O-line and pick up a veteran QB that can not just hold down the games, but educate the linemen in what their duties are and how to protect him.

You draft tackles and a center, you develop guards. And you seriously look at running double tight end sets.

Priorities

Find your QB - check if Cam is gtg

Protect him- we poo the bed doing this

Get weapons - check, but could use another receiver with solid hands

This team needs an online, especially a competant center and 1 guard, I'm not opposed to 2 if Turner wants to keep playing like poo. Tackles are important but can be helped with a competent OC, but it all starts at center.
