Burns - injured shoulder

Just put him on the shelf. This staff never figured out how to use him anyway and it feels like they just used that wrist injury and Irvin's return to bury him on the depth chart.

I agree that they used the wrist as a way to stash him once Irvin returned.  But I think there were two other big issues that kept him from having a better season.

1. He needs to get stronger and put on 10-15 lbs. or so.  His frame is so slight that I think he could easily add the weight without losing his bend and speed.  This is something I expect to happen this offseason.  IMO, he should go out to Colorado and spend some time working with CMC.  He seems to have a great regimen for adding size and strength without sacrificing quickness and speed.

2.  The other thing is that we didn't have anyone protecting him inside.  None of our interior guys were able to demand significant attention, so as a result, there weren't many pass rushing lanes for him to exploit.

What does this even have to do with the injury.

The dude got inured on a special teams play.

Why the he11 do they have your edge rusher out as a gunner on punt returns?

It has to do with the fact that we should have never drafted him....

It's valid to say that he's had his fair share of "bumps and bruises" this season.

That could conceivably be a concern.

I mean he did break his hand/wrist punching the ground.

The idea was that we could switch from a 3-4 to 4-3 and the variety of looks would give opposing offenses trouble. I never want to see us play a 3-4 unless we have a massive incredible NT.

Which is exactly what we need, I love the unpredictability of a hybrid offense, everywhere else we have the personal to even switch from a 34 to a 43 on the fly....we might even want a later round raw NT with high upside. 34 NT news to be a little bigger as do 34 DEs, 34 DEs need to be around KKs level of weight power and athleticism. He and Poe were the only 2 coming in that could play that spot and you need 2 on the field on running downs. No depth is why we suffered against the run.

He was great early in the year just wait till next year after we get the best NT in the draft and watch him dominate. He will get some 1 on 1s with TEs or HBs wich he will destroy and with the NT keeping Keek clean he will mop up any run plays. Saw way too many time keek getting grabbed and held by olineman this year and he still is gonna finish top 5 in tackles.

Calling it now. The guy is way too small to play DE. Unless he puts on 25-30 lbs, he will be a complete waste. Big OL throw him around. Watch the tape. All of his sacks occurred when the QB stayed in the pocket too long then tried to escape out. Burns then caught them on the outside.

If we go back to a 4-3, he doesn’t have a spot in this team, remember Everette Brown.

6.5 sacks in 11 games, I would start him next season.

3.5 sacks from a 10 sack rookie season .. that's very good .. Burns was a good pick

Little could certainly still end up a very good pick, he just turned 22 FFS

And everybody here wanted to pick Grier in the 3rd .. so nobody can bitch about Hurney drafting Grier, everyone here wanted that ..

And Daley seems like a steal ..

So contrary to popular belief, this draft by Hurney was as good as you can get, for now

Burns is a good situational edge pass-rusher, but that's it. He's also showing to be injury prone. A 1st round pick should be an every down player somewhere on the football field. Unless he gains weight and can stop the run, he will be a situational pass-rusher his entire career. To me that's a waste of a 1st round pick.

Or just 3 above avg atarters atleast

We have Vernon "i get push around by Jimmy Graham" Butler and Kyle Love as starters.  We're in for a bad time no mater the scheme

We can't play Poe at NT and expect to stop the run. We can't have multiple key injuries on at DT and expect to stop the run. Butler has long arms so he can shed blocks which helps to rush the passer, but his lower body lacks power and that's why he gets pushed around.

We need a top quality NT if we're going 3-4, so expect a NT to be drafted.

Yeah, he’s supposed to be a hall of famer at this point of his career.
