The Athletic reports that Marty Hurney will stay on as GM, and is negotiating contracts for Bradberry and Boston

I will lol if we take a LT in the 1st round of the draft.  Do we need it?  Abso-freaking-lutey!  However, that's Hurney basically waiving the white flag on Little.  Good GMs don't have to continuously retrace their steps.  They get moves right more times than not, not vice vera.

Hurney is not good in the draft outside of R1.... reaches for players and gives out player-friendly contracts, which then hurt the franchise's ability to sign other players. Hitting on 1 out of 7 draft picks is stunting this franchise.

If Rivera was shown the door for mediocrity, I don't understand how Hurney can still be our GM.

You want to give him a Front Office position in some capacity or an advisor, sure...but not GM. Come on, let's start fresh with HC and GM.

Everyone is overreacting,  Hurney is not a bad GM.  And before someone shows me the overall record of the team while he was here,  overall record is not indicative of how good of a job the GM did. The GM builds a team according to how the head coach wants his team to look.  Obviously Tepper believes he provided Rivera with enough talent to win, and he didn't.

Some people didn’t have a problem giving Rivera enough talent to win with.

But he’s the one everyone wants. I just hope Cam gets out ASAP. Until then I can watch the dumpster just melt. It’s glorious.

Of course players love Hurney, who wouldn't want to get paid double what they should? Also I really hope we can keep Bradberry at less than 13 million a year.

In all fairness, Hurney 2.0 has negotiated some good contracts.

Unless I missed it, does Hurney signing Boston not seem a bit ironic?  He's having to ink a JAG to replace his bust 3rd rounder.  You couldn't make this crap up!

haha I forgot all about that.  Shouldn't Gaulden be ready to step into the bright lights and assume the starting role since Boston was supposed to be a stopgap?  Wasn't that the way this was supposed to work?

I refuse to get wound up about this team going into next season because it looks bad.  Basically the entire OL needs to be evaluated with C being a huge FA bust and both T positions in flux, interior DL has been injury plagued and is either about to enter FA or is getting old and injury prone, we have 1.5 starting corners and the 1 part of that group wants top 5 at his position money, we have a box safety and Tre Boston looking for a contract, and it's not clear what defense we're even going to be running next year.  So, we have good/great 4-3 LBs playing out of position, some promising edge rush talent, an all-world running back who is legitimately one of the best players in the entire league, and DJ Moore looking like a future starter (well, more like coming into his own as a true #1 WR, credit where credit is due) with Curtis Samuel showing some flashes.

Oh, and then there's that QB position.

I mean, I'd rather him be realistic than keep attempting to make a player something they are not. For as dumb of an idea as it was to draft Gaulden, at least he did cut his ass this season. I'd rather he at least realizes his mistakes than go down with the ship.

Tre Boston had a very under the radar, great season, for a terrible defense.  He might have been our 2nd or 3rd best player on defense this year.

Check out his PFF grade

Just because no one wanted him, doesn't mean he's not good;  a lot of guys end up undervalued by the market for one reason or another.

Both of the safeties did pretty good this season because the front 7 largely was horrible.  Sorry, I'm not buying into inflated stats.  The eyeball test says Boston is a JAG.  If he's getting a JAG contract, then so be it.  However, with Hurndog drawing it up, I having a feeling Boston is going to come out smelling like roses.

Yep.  Boston was truly a bright spot in a year where most of the defense acted like they didn’t give a damn.  Resigning him should be a priority.

Hurney has not handed out a bad contract since returning.  Just stop it with this nonsense.

Paradis is a bust, but most teams would have paid him what we did considering his tape.

Huh? Tepper really going to keep Hurney to trade Cam and then fire Hurney...?

Well. I laughed for a second then thought about it. It makes more sense that just keeping Hurney on his merits. And this fan base gets emotional over any decent player. Imagine Cam going?Taking the heat( and a different job) Could be a plan. Why not at this point?

Wait until Jim Haslett is named DC.

Boston is a free safety, he didn't pad stats because the run defense was shitty he was actually pretty damn good in coverage. Reid, who was very, very, very bad in coverage benefited in some stat padding based on our front seven being powder soft.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
