The Case for WR Jeudy at #7

Jeudy, Jeudy Jeudy

Remember when Steve Smith was the only WR we had?  Opposing teams made life miserable for him, jamming him and doubling him the entire game.  Moore is in danger of that situation now.  With Samuel showing that he is not a true WR this year, there is nothing on the roster to force him into the slot--however, a weakness would become a glaring strength if Jeudy were to join the WR corps.

In all probability, we are losing Olsen, a prime target in the passing game.  So, besides CMC out of the backfield, how dangerous are we?  Upgrade the OL if you want, but if the defense can cover your WRs with safeties and your TEs with LBs, blitzes can come from anywhere.  Imagine you are a defensive coordinator and you have to game plan against Moore and Jeudy with Samuel in the slot and CMC in the backfield.  You think twice before blitzing DBs.  You run more cover 2.  It opens the seam for Samuel and Thomas (TE) and CMC.

Jeudy is a pristine rounte runner who expertly runs every route on the tree.  He gets open.  He has speed and decent size, although he is a bit frail for a WR, but a year in the weight room and a weekend with Kelvin Benjamin will fix that.

Jeudy is the player in this draft that teams will look back on in 4 years and wonder why they did not pick him. Better than the last two first round WRs to come from Bama, Jeudy was a standout in a stud fleet of WRs. He is as NFL-ready as any WR you will find.

"His athleticism is off the charts. A quick-twitch athlete with top-notch burst, agility and straight-line speed, Jeudy is a challenge for anyone to cover based off of his raw athleticism alone. When he gets the ball in his hands, he is a threat to break free on nearly every play. He has stellar lateral agility in the open field, and his vision as a ball carrier allows him to exploit open running lanes in space.

That’s not even considering his elite route-running intelligence, as his understanding of how to create separation might be better than any wide out in the class. He does a great job of using hand techniques to separate from defensive backs, and he is able to attack leverage points based off of their alignment, stemming his routes at an elite level. Jeudy’s ability to sink and flip his hips is incredible, and it allows him to easily deceive cornerbacks and shed their coverage."---Draftwire

The man is a weapon.  With Moore, the WRs could become the best in the NFL.  You can find linemen in free agency, but you will not find such a polished football player who is ready to start day 1.

I still want a top O-lineman, give me Thomas or Wirfs. A great offensive Head Coach can scheme his WR open. The line has to be addressed for the health of Cam, once the line is solidified, then they should go find a WR. There is also some pretty good WR2 in FA this year.

Teams never made life miserable for Steve Smith. Steve Smith made life miserable for teams!!!!!!!!

idiot facepalm GIF

See Seahawks, Seattle.  NFL Championship game in 2006.  Shut him down--doubled him all game and let Drew Carter go.  See 2010 and 2013 seasons--Smith had David Gettis as the #2 and Brandon Lafell--got doubled a lot.  in 2013, the team was 12-4 and smith had 4 tds, 64 catches for 745 yards.  In 2010, he had 500+ yards (Clausen).

When Smith was not doubled or give man under coverage with S help, he was unstoppable.

Keep the comment in perspective and the purpose of the thread.

Could very well be the BPA when we pick. Only way I think he is the pick is if we address the Oline in FA. Otherwise I have a hard time believing we pass on Oline or Dline.

Jeudy would make our offense a problem though.

You do realize he won't make it 10 yards down the field before our QB is sacked right?

    • I believe Lloyd will elevate not just the whole unit, but also whoever his running mate is. Wallace is still very young, I think he's only 23 with two years of exp now. Cherelus can handle starting, he's just fighting with staying healthy. Kuwatch I think is going to be a contender after a couple week of understanding the system.  I mean Lee will be against..... what nearly 10 NFL-level WRs, he's going to get work and its up to him if he can hang.  I think its fair to expect 12th +/- 3 or 4 spots.  You know this, it boils down to how healthy everyone stays.....cause if dbrown, horn, Lloyd, Michael Jackson, or tervon miss extended time.....no way 10th can be reached. IF all the names above remain haethly, I do think 10th should be the goal. They are a young unit and added talent to a 16th ranked unit. Its time to march forward!!
    • Varying degrees all around but it starts at the top. That is where the buck stops. It has been 8 years of stupid, long before Morgan came back. Or Tillis was hired. Made it to the top of stupid mountain in 2023. Stayed in stupid limbo for a while, now we are prepping to scale the next mountain. In this case, I like those guys’ roster building better than what we have had so I am okay with them as our current pawns in the game of Bryce.
    • Don't let me gas him up too much, but I hear this and that...... I seen a wide body man with a quick burst, that's able to shed blocks and if extends his long arms its over. He tore up the OL in the senior, you seen about 10 plays and the dog walking OLman. There's other plays of him doing the same, just have to deal with fetus talking over the plays. Plus there's this-  https://x.com/PFF_College/status/2018385471068332410?lang=en     I hope he's ready, cause Id like to see him starting and doing his thang with dbrown, nic, and Phillips.
