REPORT: Rapoport reports Baylor DC Phil Snow is expected to follow Panthers coach Matt Rhule to Carolina

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Baylor DC Phil Snow is expected to follow Panthers coach Matt Rhule to Carolina.

Rapoport said Snow "could" be the Panthers defensive coordinator, too. It's just a report right now, but coaches usually bring in the people they know best to fill their top assistant positions. At Baylor, Rhule and Snow brought a previously 1-11 team into the College Football Playoff hunt with an exciting offense and overachieving defense. Snow's only NFL coaching experience came in the mid-2000s as a linebackers coach with the Detroit Lions. He'd be a complete question mark if he were to be assigned defensive play-calling duties.

We better hope this guy is the next Wade Phillips, because Rhule apparently doesn't believe in firing coaches, ever

We're stuck with him for a very long time

Rhule will not be able to maintain that view in the NFL if he wants to stick around himself.

I initially was all aboard the Wade Phillips train, but looking further into his numbrers of late, I'm not as impressed. There was a tremendous amount of talent on that Rams defense and they haven't been that good for the past two years.

He's an amazing coordinator, but I wonder how much his philosophies and style are adaptable to the NFL offenses that are evolving.

As for Snow.... I would prefer him be on the staff, but maybe not DC. However, he did have a top-20 ranked defense nationally in a conference not known for defense, rather wide open offenses.

We mocked Rivera for poaching the entire Panthers coaching staff out of 'loyalty', but at least these were proven NFL guys.

It seems like we hired Rivera's dumber, fat cousin (from his analytically illiterate belief that you win by 'running the ball and stopping the run', to his obstinate belief in rewarding 'loyalty').  So we'll see how it goes trying to win in the NFL with a bunch of his Baylor cronies.

Correct.  His first losing season will require a sacrifice to the NFL football scapegoat gods.  Or we riot.  Honeymoon will be over on the huddle

Eh, Panthers fans are pretty passive and barely even make noise at games.

And Tepper has shown a coach can roll over on him.  He demanded Rivera fire Eric Washington, so Rivera just pretended he was going to take over play calling duties (allowing him to keep Washington on), and then just let Eric continue to call plays again.  Tepper got rolled.

We're stuck with his Temple/Baylor cronies for a long time.

Possibly, but I suspect they will get just a tad bit more rope than normal.   Unless it's really obvious it's a coaching issue then he will get at least 2 season to prove himself.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
