Cam/Trubisky trade?

The only reason to take Trubisky is to have someone on the QB depth chart not named Allen or Grier.  That, and if you do resurrect him, he is only 26 (at the start of next season).  He would still be around when you come out from the ashes of rebuilding.

As a QB, I'd rather have Cam, if he is healthy, then Carr.  You do give up some longevity in both cases, since Cam will be 31 for next season, and I think Carr 28.

I could see the Rai-dahs interested in some from of Carr for Cam deal.  They want to move on from Carr, and they also want to make a splash as the moving vans roll into Vegas.

But, from the Panthers' perspective, any of those deals is predicated on some hope you have a starting QB at the end of it.  Otherwise, all the warm body does is take away from potential draft pick(s) you might have received, instead.

And for those whining that "OMG, everybody is assuming a rebuild is going to be successful," that isn't true.  It may or may not be (and really may not if Hurney is guiding it).  But what we know is what we are doing is not going to be successful.  Contrary to some opinions, we are not just a couple of players away.  The yearly attempt at plugging the gaps with FAs for the next season is leading us nowhere.

There is a term for doing the same thing but expecting different results.

I don't think it would be a straight up trade. They'd have to sweeten the pot. Maybe Trubisky and a 2nd for Cam.

Keep in mind, I'm only suggesting this working under the assumption that the decision has already been made to definitively move on from Cam no matter what, which may or may not be an accurate assumption. I hope it's not.

I get you.  I am not worried about just exploring hypotheticals and what ifs.

It would just be hard for me to swallow even a 2nd and Trub.  Only having basically 2 years on his contract is actually a major downer for me.  Teams typically progressing with a rookie, start to show team improvement/playoff pushing his 3rd year.  Giving about a 3 year window on the rookie deal at low pay.  A huge advantage in putting together a team around him.  After that, it can become more challenging.

If Trub turns around and ends up being amazing under Rhule/Brady, we just have a much much smaller window on taking advantage of his rookie deal.  Lets say our offense just clicks this year in this hypothetical with Trub.  Our defense most likely still needs at least another year of rebuild for a contender push.  So we'd basically just have Trub on the last year of his rookie deal to take advantage of it.

This is all also assuming Trub comes here and balls out.  Which I wouldn't expect to happen.

Come on, don’t be such a Tar Heel homer. Trubisky is flat out garbage. If we want to tank for Trevor then he’s our guy.

Not being a homer on this one. Tanking for *insert player here* doesn't always work out. Hell, it probably doesn't work out for more often than it does. See Luck and his injury issues and early retirement or Tua and his now 85 year old man hip.

No one expected Joe Burrow to ball out either. Just saying. Pretty sure he went into this season as a guy considered by most to be a mid-late round pick and then he had what may have honestly been the greatest single season in college football history. Certainly the greatest CFP performance of all time and good luck to anyone even putting themselves in that conversation. 14 TDs in two games... GTFO of here with that. LOL!

Depending on the picks, Id much rather have Cam. I honestly would not trade Allen for Trubisky, I think that low of his skills. If not for having a guaranteed contract, I believe Trubisky would be cut and bounce around the league for about 2.5 years before everyone knows how bad he is.

I think this way about Nagy.

Nagy was able to "smoke and mirrors" the league for that 12-4 season while Trub held down the QB. Then the league found out forcing him to throw was the golden ticket to beating them, especially after they traded away howard. Bears have a legit D, Trub by far is the weakest link. I would say giving him a TE or 2, may save his career.
