Not 100% sure what would qualify as "developing into a starter".

But out of the 8 teams in the division round of the playoffs, I count..5? that weren't starting day 1.  4 I think that weren't the starter year 1.

I mean guys who were drafted outside of the first round (weren’t expected to be good coming out) and developed into starters after being benched for a year or two.

Cousins and Aaron yes. Who else?

Just wondering what the odds are.

I mean even Rogers was drafted first round after it being a toss up pre draft whether it would be him or Alex Smith at number one overall. He sat only because of that Brett Favre guy.

    • Jets are so screwed they think they're getting a leg up by not announcing who is starting at QB lol. That being said Tyrod still might be an upgrade to our qb room.
    • It's his lauch pad throws. In school he was behind great blocking and it's like he ran into his throws that went down field to WRs that had so much space they could adjust and still be ahead of the DBs.
    • We don't know 1) where we're going to end up picking in the draft, or 2) what QBs will even declare for the draft, let alone which ones will be worthy of considering in the 1st round. That being said, I feel like our best bet may be to pursue a veteran with some upside that could be at worst a productive stop-gap until we can draft our actual QB of the future and, at best, another Baker/Darnold/Daniel Jones late bloomer redemption story. So... Mac Jones, anyone? The 49ers have him under contract for 2026 and will almost certainly entertain offers for him after his performance this season. Also consider that while many here have soured on Bryce Young, there are almost certainly still executives in the league that would take a shot on developing him as a former 1st overall pick. If there is one team - and one coach/scheme - that could get the most out of Bryce Young it's probably Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers. I wonder if they would be interested in a swap of former Alabama star QBs with 1st round pedigrees? You could argue which team might have to throw in some additional compensation, but it could be a good deal for both teams. The Panthers would get a QB who would be an immediate upgrade with potential to be that next Baker/Darnold/Daniel Jones redemption story and the 49ers get a backup to Brock Purdy with a skillset that Kyle Shanahan might just be uniquely qualified to tap into it. Any takers?
