Preferred Direction at QB?

davos

What do you think is the right direction to take at QB?

  1. 1. Everyone seems sure about what they don't want to happen, so let's run a poll. What makes the most sense in rebuilding year 1?

    • Tua Tagovailoa
    • Justin Herbert
    • Cam Newton Returns!
    • No Cam, No Top QB, No FA, Allen-Grier 2020
    • 2nd-ish Round Special (Fromm/Eason/Hurts/Gordon)
    • FA Special (Bridgewater/Mariota/Keenum/Rivers)

Why does anyone think this is an option if we don't even want to keep and pay Cam? Carr is due a total of nearly 60 million dollars in salary through 2022, and he will be turning 29 in March.

In short. Fug no to that idea.

No way he even gets half that

Why bother with this approach? If you're going the total rebuild route then just tank. Play Grier and end up with a top 3 pick. Mediocrity is NFL purgatory that's hard to break out of.

Yep. So stupid to sign a stop gap and most of the guys listed were going to be more expensive than Cam. Either draft your guy this year or next if Cam’s out of the plan. No guarantees but if Grier is starting, we’re the front runners for the top pick.

Just like 2018 for SF. Jimmy’s done for the year. Go trade for Bridgewater or throw the backup scrubs out there and get the #2 pick in Bosa and have a great 2019.

I started the offseason wanting Cam back for another try but after Luke & Olsen leaving and all indications Tepper and Hurney are in charge of whatever this is, I wouldn't wish it on Cam. I hope he goes and wins a championship. We don't appear yet to be headed in a good direction but it's still early and until after the draft I can't be sure about much beyond it would take several miracles to be contenders next year.

With a 2020 "healthy" Cam, this team MIGHT win 6 games....might.

At this point, it's time to trade Cam, start Grier, have Kyle as a backup, bring in a camp body for the 3rd seat in the room, and lose 12 or more games next season.

Use this year to set up the future by clearing dead money, clearing dead weight, acquiring NO FA's so we get comp picks, and not leveraging the future.

I was fully on the bring Cam back for 1 more run to see what he has left, but that will only net us a 10th overall draft pick next season...it's time to start over from scratch.

This is one scenario that is looking the most likely to play out.  I give it a 60/40 chance at the moment but it could change quickly.

I agree.  It's the smartest decision moving forward, but I can't help but be scared to death of a new coach, new owner, new OC, and stupid GM....and what hairbrained idea they could come up with.

The worst decision at this point would be trading up for Burrow, the 2nd worst, would be trading up for Tua, the 3rd worst is paying a top FA QB to come in, and 4th is keeping Cam here for this season.

One of those nukes our franchise for a few years, the other two a couple years, and the final a year.

I'd prefer to take my lumps now, hell we are accustomed to losing at this point.

It's gamble no matter which option they ultimately go with.  Every scenario has a chance to succeed or fail.   Anyone claiming they know which choice will succeed or fail is basing it on their own biases and to be taken with a grain of salt.  And to complicate matters you have Hurney.  The Beetlejuice of GM's as Teppers concierge.

So Basically, 56% of the respondents want to go a different direction. There are 2 options here---Cam stays, Cam goes.

I think there should be a few more surveys:

1. Cam Stays/cut Cam

2. Cam Stays/trade Cam for a second rounder or higher

3.  Does not matter because I am latched onto his scrotum so tightly I am going wherever Cam goes./I am not latched onto Cam's scrotum.

I fall under the "I am not latched onto Cam's scrotum" column given the choices.  But you are pretty on target with your list so far.  I'm sure there will be a few more.

Me neither and proudly so.  I think the difference is not how people view Cam (on the non-scrotum-latching side) but what is in the long-term, best interest of the team.  The best decisions are often the toughest--but making them on emotion gets you fired.

This is the truth.

We are very much gambling moving forward, the trick here is to go down the path that has the least pitfalls, and offers the greatest chance of success, long term.  I am over thinking about the short term only with this team.

I don't even look at it as whether it's the best decision or not to be honest.   The only thing I can do is watch it play out and hope it's worth my time tuning in on Sundays.

I've followed Cam since his days at Auburn and I don't worry about how he is viewed by the world. He's played the game his way and I admire him for that because it's taken its toll on him.  He's made a lot of money and seems to be happy.  I love the guy and will miss him when he's no longer here.  But unfortunately life goes on and Tepper has a right to do whatever the fug he wants with this team.  All we can hope for is for it to be worth it in the end.

That's all I have to say about that.
