Thoughts on Cam and the rebuild

I really don't I can totally believe any of the talk from either the team or from "CAM's camp". I do think that what happens will depend on CAM's physical & where the Brady train stops, IMO. There are several teams that are a QB away from the playoffs. If CAM turns up reasonably healthy, I do believe he wants to win and a better chance at a ring as much or more than staying. If a 2nd rounder or close is offered the Panthers will have to take  a hard look,IMO

I have nothing against him, but like I have said numerous times about this, the timing on just about every factor involved is off.  The surgery, the shoulder, the contract, etc.  Everything is just lining up for him to get dealt.  Chicago would be fools to not offer a 3rd for him.

If Cam stays healthy and plays well then you certainly give him a new contract.  If Cam can get this team to 8 wins next year, then he will have played great. Why do so many think a franchise QB is something easy to find.

Lets say you decide to let Cam walk and draft a QB with pick 7.  If he doesn't work out you are going to waste #26m and 4 years (the cost and length of his rookie contract).

There is no sure thing in the draft.  If we get 8 wins and Cam is playing great then you add to the team.  You have your QB and you can use your resources on the rest of the team.  

My point was I'm not letting Cam go for nothing.  I don't mind losing a year and $19m in cap space to see if Cam can not only return to his old self,  but maybe even flourish with an innovative OC.  

On the other hand if some team wants to give me good trade value then yes I will happily entertain that offer.

Or let's say Cam has a good 2020 and then his body gives out from all the hits (the signs are there--or 3 surgeries in 3 years could be the norm).  We give him $33m for 3 years-about $70m guaranteed.  Cam's deal is $120m vs. $26m.   Risk is risk--it is there on both sides.

Lotta scenarios, which makes this interesting.  I try to look at all angles from a business perspective.
