As long as each source is consistent in how they are diagnosing the deaths, I'm okay with most of the ways its done.  There were a few instances where I've heard of somewhat arbitrarily deciding that something was a COVID death, but I don't think that is widespread.

This analogy would only work if I could build a house at the beach and then, without you having any say or initial knowledge, transfer it and all financial responsibility for it to you; and you only become aware of it when the foreclosure notice arrives.

Your attempt to re-frame his analogy was terrible, and I know you can do better.

History books are going to use trump as an example of what NOT to do when facing a crisis. So at least there will be a few positives to come out of this.

Hey we agree on something!  I think saying "I am totally in charge and can do whatever I want" followed by "that's not on me and I take no responsibility for any of this" will be in chapter 1.

My point is that it's still happening. It seems as if a lot of the "open up now" crowd doesn't think that the death toll warrants our action and may not realize we're still seeing 1000 people die a day from this.

People aren't looking at it from the same 10,000 ft view as you.  Many of them are in areas where there aren't alot of cases and aren't alot of deaths.  How many areas of the country are supposed to stay locked up because New Yorkers keep dying?  That's part of the question some people are asking themselves.

1,000 people die a day.. where? Not in NC, Not in Florida, not in GA. If you think about it though, 50 States divided by 1,000 is 20 deaths a day. 7,500 people die per day in America. Without COVID.

Where? In America.

So a 13% increase in death rate doesn't seem at all alarming to you? Given the reality that Georgia has already been caught blatantly falsifying their COVID data, do you really trust their numbers?

Despite the rampant conspiracy theories of inflated numbers, the majority of actual medical experts believe that the numbers are almost certainly off on the low side.

Yes, in America. Does it seem alarming? Depends on what else hits us. Hurricane Season is going to be lit this season.

I trust NC, where I live. I trust my County where I live. 191 Covid Cases, 104 recovered. 76 at Home, 6 Deaths, and 5 hospitalized. Where I live, it is minimal.

Same here where I live.  At first there was panic and "OMG we are the next New York!"  That's when they put in plans to build out the coliseum as a makeshift hospital.  But the numbers never came, so the city shifted the burden onto the local hospitals.  "We aren't building out the coliseum, but you will need to add X number of beds to your capacity!"  That's when I got the call to come up with a plan.  Once we got the plan in motion, we were told to hold for a second, the numbers don't support it.  Next thing I know, I'm getting a call saying they aren't doing it at all...because...data.

It is tough being an emergency planner during this time..

Goodness, politics controls so many of your guys' lives, it's crazy. The sun will rise tomorrow.

On a side note, a Twitch streamer I follow made a funny & interesting theory. The people who are DEMANDING that I wear a mask aren't doing it because they care about safety, but because they want to feel superior to others by telling them what to do. Many of which are middle-aged white women aka Karen's. They haven't been able to speak to any managers within the last few months, so they're out telling others to wear their mask or snitching on people & businesses. Pretty funny stuff.

But on another side note, people who wear masks aren't doing much if they're don't keep their hands clean. Walking around Walmart wearing a mask then touching your buggy, opening freezer aisle doors, grabbing things off shelves, touching the keypads at checkout, then going on to touch your phone, your car door, steering wheel, blinker, radio, etc. Then going home to touch your cabinet doors, fridge door, remote, etc. A mask becomes pointless. Then you have the people who wear gloves but then keep those gloves on after leaving the store rather than discarding them as soon as they walk out. Probably the same type of person who drives around wearing a mask despite being in the car alone. I don't wear a mask anymore, but I clean my buggy before using, I grab the lower part of the door in the freezer aisle being that it's less likely to have been touched, never taking food from the front, but in the back, not touching my face nor phone, keeping my debit card in my front pocket, use my knuckles for my pin #, and as soon as I walk out I clean my hands, put my groceries in the car, clean my hands again, go home, put my groceries up, clean the countertop, wash my hands again, and then disinfect my debit card. Been doing that for two months and have had no issues. Keeping your hands clean is much, much more important than wearing a mask. I'm doing my part.

    • The Seahawks won an emotional, divisional, overtime rivalry game vs the Rams on a Thursday night (Dec 18).  That gives them 10 days to prepare for the Panthers, but the Christmas holiday fell a week later--I bet they were afforded an extra day for travel-many coming back east.  Following the Panthers, Seattle plays at San Francisco for the division title (in all probability).   The Rams finish the season with games against the Falcons and Cardinals, two likely wins, pushing them to 13-4.  The Niners finish the season with home games against the Bears and Seahawks. Seattle finishes the season with the Panthers on the road and SF in California.   It is easy to see how preparing for the Panthers, during the holiday break and with the Niners waiting for them in SF a week later for (what could be) the NFC West title and #1 Seed in the NFC, could create the perfect trap game scenario.  The Panthers at home are 5-2.   In the past 2 weeks, the Seahawks struggled to beat the Phillip Rivers Colts in Seattle and then pulled off a miraculous, emotional victory at home vs. the Rams.  I am not convinced that they are as good as advertised. Seattle is a TD favorite in Charlotte.  I feel that Carolina by 3 may be more accurate.  While I am still not confident in this team's consistency and it never seems to dominate, it sure feels like a trap game for Seattle to me.  How could they NOT be thinking of San Francisco right now?  They are not used to being in this position (current players) and it is human nature.  Carolina 27, Seattle 24.
    • It is a tough decision.  There is another factor.  Is he in game shape?  A tired Hunt is not better than an "in-shape" Corbett.  When coming off an injury, it is natural to want to protect the injured area, even if it is completely healed.  This can cause you to contort your body for no reason, lose fundamentals, and it could lead to other injuries.  For example, I had a knee in high school that required getting taped.  That made me aware of the knee (not used to tape on my knee) and I pulled my groin (favoring or dragging the leg with the tape).  The trainer explained the groin injury the way I do here--but scared money makes no money.  If he is cleared to play, he is cleared to play.  Watch him, rotate him in for a series, etc.  Specifically, I would want to watch the matchup--who is winning more--Corbett or Hunt?  How is the defense reacting (if at all) to Hunt being in?  Etc.
    • Shannon was sued for $50 million (settled out of court, I believe) for forcing sex on his girlfriend during a two-year relationship.  He denies it, but ESPN let him go last April.  Chad Johnson's wife filed a police report because he head-butted her in a car and was put on probation. I had to google it.  I watched the Ray Rice video and when you see it, you realize just how vile and cowardly abusing a woman really is.  But for the same point Aussie tried to make, these women are defenseless, and being phyiscally bigger and stronger does not validate your actions.   I can't even stand to watch Steve Smith.  I can't normalize this kind of behavior--again, I do not think R-P had that in mind when he posted this.  When the reason was exposed, we should realize that we are talking life (quality of) and death (in some cases) here.
