Cam forced into a trade

So he could play the year out and if he does well we resign him, if he plays bad not up to it he probably retires on his own.

I’m not saying he wouldn’t want an extension but he can always play out this final year all the team had to do was say Cam is our guy.

Why you want to twist and turn poo to fit the narrative you push I’ll never understand. Cam loved the team, city and community but sure guy just wanted out and wouldn’t play without a new 10 year deal, like fug no he never once mentioned anything like that just that he wanted to be a panther whether it be one year or 5 more years.

Saying that Cam wanted an extension is not the same as saying he wanted out if he didn't get one.

If you can't distinguish between those two things, I can't help you.

Cam has said from the start he wants to be in Carolina he never once mentioned an extension ever. That’s all bs rumors that you tried to help start.

Stand by for team-friendly media to get fed "stories" from "team sources" about how all of this is Cam's fault, sooner rather than later.  And the Usual Suspects in this forum will drink that kool-aid like a man just in from the desert.

I guess Cam ought to be used to the Carolina Panther's Bus tracks all over his back by now.

It never ends man. It shocks me unless these guys slurp it up so they can keep saying “muh sources”

If you say so, chief :eyeroll:

I don't doubt that Newton wants to stay in Carolina, but here's the thing: You can't stay in Carolina without an extension. So if Newton really wants to stay in Carolina, then guess what?

The bottom line is that the team isn't as committed to Newton as he is to them.

You're trying to say that Newton wanted to continue playing for the Panthers but that he wasn't looking for an extension.

I'm not sure you understand how contracts work.

Where is the goal post right now? And where was it at the beginning of this argument. Seems to be all over the place but maybe we can get a nice summarized version so we dont need to rad the whole thread.

The Panthers have handled Newton poorly for pretty much his entire career.

That his exit would also be poorly-executed probably shouldn't come as a surprise.

(and here I was told that Marty Hurney always does a fantastic job letting players go gracefully and with dignity)

I don't think it's Cams fault for not wanting to play without and extension. Nor do I blame Carolina for not wanting to give him one.

The question is, was he willing to play this year without one? It's hard for me to believe he was. It's not me defending Panther brass. Tepper has done nothing to deserve my loyalty, Hurney sucks, and I know nothing about Rhule, it's simply the only logical thing that makes sense in my mind.  Cam is an MVP winning QB, if Im him, no way I'm playing without an extension, especially when my agent tells me there are teams out there willing to give me one.

If Cam was willing to play without the extension, then why would Carolina trade him and then pay Teddy Bridgewater 60M?

Just my opinion here . . . but . . . I think much of the fan blowback is a result of double talk from the team.

If the team had come out and said "We don't think Cam is the answer going forward for the Panthers" it would have pissed people off.  We would have said Marty/Tepper/Rhule were stupid.  However, it would have been short lived and allowed people to deal with it.  Even Cam could have said "Ok, fine, I'll go somewhere else and show you".

But they didn't.

We can still hear the echoes of Matt Rhule telling us how excited he was to see Cam on the field for us.  How eager he was to coach him.

What it boils down to is that fans in Charlotte had long felt like they could believe what the team was telling them.  We may not have always agreed with it, but at least we could believe them.  That trust is now broken and gone.  May never return.  I don't think the team understands what they've done.

No longer will they be judged on anything but their performance on the field.  If the product is good, people will come.  If the product is poor, the half empty stadiums at the end of last year will be a fond memory compared to what is coming.

The most recent indications were that Newton was indeed willing to play out the last year of his contract.

Apparently, the team wanted to move on anyway.

I know we heard the news about Newton being allowed to seek a trade before we heard the news about Bridgewater, but it's kind of hard not to believe that the Panthers closing in on Bridgewater was a factor in them telling Newton he could seek a trade.

I once saw a guy break up with a girl by introducing her to his new girlfriend. This kind of reminds me of that.

I've never really understood why anybody took what the team said at face value.

This is how the NFL works. Teams will talk about a player as if they loved him like a son...right up until they ship him off.
