Well FA so far..

I've only been mocking a combination of WR, OL and QB recently.  No more than one (early on I was mocking 2 OL).  What makes the most sense is a C/G guy.  That's almost a must, especially if Paradis can't get his crap together. WR would make sense too considering this class, but Hurney has made it clear he wants vets there seemingly impatient to wait for a rookie to develop.   If a late round QB is there they like, that's an option as well. The TE class is bad.  Circle back around next year.  For a guy that has been banging the table for a TE the past 5 years (day 1 or 2) that tells you how thin this TE class is.

I agree with the OG/C type Olinemen.. But with the little to no action at CB and DT I've backed off a bit from that... I definitely want a WR but with all the WR signing I've look later in the draft like 6th or 7th round... I wonder how Far Bryan Edward's fall due to injury... Desmond Patton has caught my eye as well.. If they draft a QB in this draft I'll be flabbergasted.. With so many young arms already on the roster needing the reps ....why?? I'd rather go for a special teamer type specialist guy in later rounds..  Or a developmental Lineman...

Grier isn't going to pan out.  I can easily see him getting cut in the final roster trim (practice squad possibly).  Unless he completely turns it around, he's no more than a 3rd string guy.  Cut your loses and move on.  Hanging on to a bad pick in an attempt to save face only magnifies the poor lack of judgement.

3 WR, 1 OG, 1 QB, 1 TE,  1 DE, 2 Safety  right??

No DT with only 1 on the roster .

No CB with only 1 with starting experience..

No LB with only 1 with starting experience..

So?? What does this mean?? A full defensive draft??

I kinda wanted to take advantage of this strong WR draft but now they signed 3 .. Which still doesn't stop them from drafting 1 but why??

I like the OG signing... But I still wanted to grab a interior Olinemen in the draft.. But doing nothing with the defense in FA is helping that out...

I really think its stupid throwing a bunch of rookies out there into the fire so early.. But it seem like we will doing that all over the defense.   We need atleast 3 DT and 2 new CB and 2 LB to fill this roster.. I hope we're not planning to do that all from the draft...

Wetherby and Smith, so 2 DE.

I still don't see why drafting a late round QB is any less than a gamble.. Clausen got more then 1 year to prove himself terrible.. We can afford to give Grier another year instead of drafting any other "hidden gem" /probably trash QB you think is better in the 7th round... Please don't  be that person..

Grab Simmons and then move up for Gladney.

That may in fact be our R-1 + 2 picks right there.  The WRs and DLs are going to push other talent down.  If Henderson and Fulton go ahead of him, Gladney could be right there at 38 BPA and fill a HUGE need.

Well they did say they wanted to draft defense very heavily. As Jeff Foxworthy would say "There's your sign".

Actually Bill Engvall did the here's your sign jokes, Foxworthy did red neck jokes.

Unless we resign Cockrell, our cb situation looks pretty dire. Even with Cockrell we would obviously still need more corners but right now we don't even have 2 corners we could start and with the amount of nickel that gets played in today's NFL, that's a scary thought. If we can nab Okudah at 7, that would be a huge win.

We obviously have a huge need at DT as well, but I'm more confident we could find a potential starter in round 2 or 3 at DT than I am for cb. Building out our cb roster with day 2 and 3 draft picks is what we did in 2016 and that didn't work out great then and with Hurney's spotty drafting history outside of round 1, probably wouldn't be any better this time around.

    • The bad thing is that Xavier Legette kind of ignored the Jugs machine his rookie season. The good thing is that he's committed to it now. Catching is important to an NFL receiver (sarcasm), but, perhaps just as important is a receiver's---any player's---mindset.  "This offseason, the young wideout has gotten back to something in terms of preparation (Jugs machine). 'Oh man, it’s always been something I’ve done, and I don’t know why, but I felt like I could take a little breath,' explained Legette (via Darin Gantt of Panthers.com). 'And when you’re playing in this game, you can never do that. It’s always a way to get better, and that’s one of the ways to help with catching. For sure, for sure. In my mind, I’m thinking about ways, things I can do. What can I do to have less drops this coming season in Year 2? 'The whole mindset has changed, man,' added Legette. 'Trying to do anything I got to. I’m sacrificing a lot of things that I used to do outside of the building to put my work inside the building.'" https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/xavier-legette-focused-on-reducing-drops-that-plagued-rookie-year-with-panthers-01k1692c0tz9 So, yeah, it wasn't good coming in taking some things for granted, but Legette is young. His mentality appears to have changed and he appears to be maturing and he's been putting in a lot of work by all accounts.  I know some of you are down on him, but I still have faith. Last season was a disjointed mess in its entirety, but there were still some flashes, particularly with route running. With Legette's seemingly better fit as the WR2, mindset and focus---doing his actual job catching the ball---he should be able to improve. Lastly, I'd like to add, props to Legette for being so open about the need to improve and change his mindset. Some guys wouldn't necessarily admit that publicly. If nothing else, he's honest and down-to-earth.
    • It is worth noting the fanbase has long held a love hate relationship with PFF over the years. Now that we are employing some of their people and actively using their data in our roster building approach going forward this should serve as the end all be all to any debate. This is either going to end really well or really bad. It's the Panthers. So save your energy and give it some time.
    • And to be honest, we weren't really talking about PFF grades either. I brought it into the conversation via a pic that's LLM-related (which apparently some Huddlers took issue with) as an aside for providing more specificity than just sheer numbers
