I hope I'm wrong, but I think Cam's career might be over.

It's not a good sign when the team that drafted you cuts you loose, with time remaining on your contract

It's not a good sign when you have no trade value (regardless of "leverage" or whatever anyone wants to say)

It's not a good sign when you haven't won a game in your last 8 starts

It's not a good sign when you've missed 16 games in the last two seasons due to injury

It's not a good sign when your throwing shoulder has sustained multiple injuries and surgeries, and you haven't been able to practice a full schedule in years

It's not a good sign when you're having emotional breakdowns on Instagram on the regular

Now, Cam is a baller, and I know we'd all love to see him bounce back from this. But I just don't see it. Even without the pandemic and quarantines, it's uncertain if he would pass a physical. While he brings talent and potential to any team that signs him, he also comes with a monumental amount of baggage. I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't on a roster when training camp begins, whenever that is....

I think someone will offer him a contract...it'll be up to him if he wants to take a low 'prove it' figure from a team that offers it to him...and it might be potentially to be a back-up or a serious fight for being the starter.

I'd agree.

Panthers screwed him out of a starting job. He will likely have to wait for another starter to get injured for him to get another starting job.

Right now he only has 2 options Chargers/Patriots neither have the cap space to sign him either.

Look for him to get healthy then wait for that key injury at QB.

No trade value when all teams know we’re just going to release him anyway. His career is only over if he chooses it is.

If there had been any interest prior to the Bridgwater signing he would have been traded.

Herein lies the problem.  This has been said ad nauseam.

Most teams are not going to sign a player with baggage.  Antonio Brown is fantastic, but he's out of an NFL job.  Backup QB is a job where you need to have your head down and almost be invisible.  That's not going to work for every player.

Cam and AB's 'baggage' aren't remotely comparable

I think Cam's biggest problem is that he could never be a backup QB.  His personality is just too big.  We've heard for years that his teammates love his leadership.  Unfortunately, that's the last thing you want from a backup QB.  It would divide your locker room.

Also, how could any QB be comfortable as a starter when your backup is CAM FREAKING NEWTON.  The guy is frankly a legend.

I feel bad for how this has all gone down.  If this is the end of his career, he deserved MUCH better.

    • Damn, am I really going to watch Steeler-Bengals on Amazon in a few minutes? Unfortunately, yes, at least for a little bit.
    • That falls entirely into the chicken-and-egg of why is he not attempting those throws more frequently: is it because he can't make those throws, or because he isn't asked to make those throws? If the latter, is he  not being asked to make those throws because the coaching staff doesn't believe he can be successful with them, or because they don't believe those types of throws fit their scheme anyways? We can eliminate option A because he clearly can physically push the ball 40+ yards, successfully or not, or there would be zero attempts of that nature. We have no way of determining which of the two factors are the reason for option B because we don't know what the coaching staff's ultimate assessment of both his abilities and of their own conviction about the value of those throws irregardless of player would be. Again, you will be hard-pressed to find many coaches that will value a play that has an 83% or higher failure rate just to "keep the defense honest" when they have more valuable and consistent options at their disposal. But the core of my argument is that it's not like it's an impossibility for Bryce to push the ball downfield, it's simply that it's not the amazing cure-all that some seem to imagine it to be even for elite QBs.
    • His ceiling is Alex Smith tier. Not the worst thing to have, but if you have the opportunity to shoot for a Patrick Mahomes you take it.
