Tua Tagovailoa

I wouldnt hate it or cheer it either. Honestly no player other than CMC should be thought of come draft time. Teddy 2 gloves is not above passing on a possible franchise QB.

This team vastly needs a huge talent injection, after the draft it will be the worst roster in the NFL. Drafting Tua could be one of paths to changing that.

Having Teddy would also avoid the necessity of playing Tua as a rookie. Even if there's a season, the off-season is gonna be a poo show. Rookies transitioning to the NFL is tough enough already. With a poo show of an off-season, it's probably gonna be rough for any rookie QBs starting week 1.

Tua doesn't have the prototypical size but what if that and the injury push him down. I can't see how the Panthers of all teams say, no, nope, uhuh, pass.

Herbert looks like he may potentially jump Tua. Could Jordan Love jump him because of height and athleticism and a cleaner injury history?

In this scenario the Panthers have nothing to lose. On the way to winning or losing they've got a potentially great QB if he can strengthen. Win win. Tua is marketable, ride that.

I don't think the Panthers are going to wait though. I feel a trade up package coming together. This team needs excitement and that starts at QB.

But Teddy's contract screams drafting a QB next year though.  Drafting a QB and having him sit behind a vet makes total sense for one year, not for two, and if the young guy starts year two then you are paying TB a lot of money to be a backup.

Unless of course when they signed TB they figured there was no chance Tua would drop, and if they were really high on them, then maybe they draft him anyway.

Logically next seems to make more sense.

Burrow would be too expensive to get, Tua will probably need a trade up also and has huge injury concerns.  A lot of people aren't sold on Herbert or Love, why gamble on guys you aren't sure about, when you can just wait a year.  Maybe you are bad enough for Fields or Trevor, worst case you draft next years version on Herbert or Love.

Even chopping Teddy after one season would still be relatively cheap against the cap as far as QB contracts go. You'd eat $20M in cap for Teddy but you'd have Tua on a cheap rookie contract so overall, you'd still just be paying the equivalent of an average starting NFL QB.

You take the franchise QB when the opportunity presents itself.

What % of QB's drafted in the 1st round make a Pro Bowl in their career?

LOL! There were 133 players on the Pro Bowl roster that year due to injuries. Five QBs sat out, so five alternates had to be named.  Teddy threw for 14 TDs and 9 INTs that season. Those 14 TDs being the most he's ever thrown for in a season.

Anyone expecting anything more than a game manager out of Teddy is basing their expectations on sheer fantasy.

Bridgewater was injured in 2016. He has recovered fully and from his stint last year appears to be able to take a hit and show some mobility in the pocket. I wouldn't rate him as iffy as Tua who hasn't played a snap since the injury. Tua might be the next big thing but with the injury not a year old, it is way too much risk for a first rounder to me.

Who knows what happens on the draft but I would think after dealing with Newton's injuries since 2016, the Panthers would not risk drafting one with an injury issue that is roughly  6 months old.

We'll take Jalen Hurts if he is still available in the second round when it comes to us. There's no way we will spend our first round pick on a QB, there are too many needs on defense to not use that early of a pick to grab a monster.

If it were me, and it is not obviously, I have Teddy for 3 years, I have PJ, I have Grier.

I have a starter and 2 backups to work through to see who can run the offense.

Build the lines, LB, CB and OL ranks this season and see what I have at QB.

After this season, we will know if one of the 3 can run the offense or not.  I would say next season is our QB year
