Not for running backs

Why not. CMC is only making 2.8M this year. And a5th year option only guaranteed if he gets hurt. So you play on the last bit of leverage you have.as a team and try to get a smaller deal which gives him security before he takes another snap. Just like Zeke did last year with Cowboys

This proves that Cam didn't demand a trade like the Panthers tried to make it seem.

Technically, they never said he did.

They stated that he was "being allowed" to seek a trade. That's not the same as saying he demanded one.

Now, can it be taken as sounding like he wants one? Yes, it can. That's how Newton himself took it, hence his reaction.

As some of us pointed out at the time, the Panthers have, for several months, used very flexible language when it came to Newton. What they said made it possible for people to basically hear what they wanted to hear, but equally possible for the team to state "we never actually said that" later if they wanted to.

It's pretty much the same as what politicians do when they're running for office.

I suspect people won't take their comments at face value so easily in the future (even if they're meant to be).

Yes he is a running back.  Like david Johnson like Todd Gurley.  You give him  a big contract you regret it immediately

Something you have to open up negotiations to even find out what the player wants. His trade value is never higher either. Why wait or not approach him at all?

Valid point.

I took it the same way as Cam did as well.

LMAO! Who do you think you are? You're the one with the BS.

Everything you type on here is littered with inferences, controversy, and prejudice. I’m just the guy who’s stating what is clear to the majority on here that maybe haven’t told you yet.

Maybe, but that's kinda like saying Barry Sanders was "just a runningback" when the reality was everything the Lions did was predicated on the threat of Sanders.

And honestly, it's generally a mistake to classify players purely by their position. Matt Ryan and Lamar Jackson are technically both quarterbacks, but there's a huge difference in what they can do.

    • One thing I didn’t consider is how thin this draft is at quarterback. That’s going to drive up the market for backups and borderline starters like Willis, Jones, and Jameis Winston. Because of that, we’ll most likely be priced out of the market for this tier of backup.
    • We've already beat the #1 seed twice, why not one more? (Packers and Rams were both #1 seed at the time we played)
    • My determination has come down to this. Based on recent QB history, has Bryce's improvement warranted 50m per season? Lamar is the only original team QB to play on his 5th year. The others took major deals at the end of the 3rd, before or just after the option was signed. Chances are, we're getting asked for the same.  I haven't rooted for Bryce to fail. I've rooted for him to succeed so big that them signing that extension would give me no worries about our future at QB at all. We haven't seen that level of play consistently that this year. We haven't seen it in the past 6 games.  We're about to be at a threshold with Bryce and I worry about what this front office will do. We have a history of bad decision making and Morgan has been part of that group making those decisions. I don't want Carolina in the same boat Arizona and Miami are right now. It has nothing to with being right. It has to do with wanting to win for more than a single season. We've never had back to back winning seasons. Faith in their abilities is not warranted at this point.
