Belichick and the Pats have not drafted a single pro bowler (really low bar to clear) in the past 6 years... Last one was Jamie Collins in 2013, 52 picks since then... Bengals are the only other team to not have a Pro Bowler drafted in the last 6 years.

 

Of course, joke’s on us and the rest of the league since they have 3 SBs in that time period, but maybe, just maybe great coaching is much more important than great drafting? If Rhule is a truly great coach, does Hurney being involved in the draft process still even matter that much?

Always drafting last prob plays a role. But yes, great coaching, scheme, and cheating make up for it.

I go back to the Herb Brooks quote from "Miracle" when he was told he'd left some of the best players off the roster.

"I'm not looking for the best players. I'm looking for the right players."

You don't need for everybody to be an individual star in order to build a good team.

All that ultimately matters is wins, losses, and championships. It doesn't matter how you assemble that winning roster, it just matters that you put one on the field year after year after year and Belichick has done that better than anyone.

But they still won multiple Super Bowls in that time table , they rather trade picks for proven players

They are picking around last in the 1st round and we are usually in the top half of the first.  We have better odds to land a Pro Bowler than they do.

Going back to look at our drafts it is painfully obvious how poorly we’ve managed our team this decade. From the 2011 to 2016 drafts, there are only two players still on the team. 

- KK Short

- Shaq Thompson

That’s not to say we haven’t drafted impact players, but we are in for a Hornets like 2-3 years due to mismanagement. While the Patriots might not have any pro bowlers, they still have contributors from those drafts.who still play a part.
