Do we have any idea who has more say this weekend? Rhule or Hurney?

Any of you have any ideas or educated guesses?

When we hired Rhule didn’t we sell him on having a lot of “organizational control”? And Hurney’s contract is almost up and there was that thread last week that he could be on his way out after the draft. If that’s true why would it make sense to give him literally anything say at all?

On the other hand, Panthers beat writers seem to think it’ll be Brown because it’s a “total Hurney pick.”

I have to disagree 100%.  If Gettleman was still here, I would concur.  Simmons screams Hurney. Better athlete than football player.  Marty loves him versatile, athletic players, especially when it comes to guys outside of the trenches.

I don't know but if Hurney wasn't involved at some level of the process, unfortunately at all involved, then why is he still here? None of the dots really connect right now and I am eager to know how much more that guy can inflict his miserable job skills on the team in any way.

My guess is at this time he is anywhere from a fully functioning GM working with the HC and owner to a subordinate of the owner and HC. If he turns out to be a lame duck GM then we will know this weekend because we all know what a Hurney draft looks like and not having one of those would be a huge positive going forward.

It had really better be Hurney. Hurney's had his eyes on the entire draft process while Rhule spent his time coaching at Baylor, moving to NC, getting a staff together, etc. It would be organizational malpractice to keep the GM on a lame-duck deal and not even let him make the decision that he's there to make. The coach should have input as always, but the GM has to be the GM.

Yes, letting the guy draft who is literally terrible outside of round 1 instead of our bright young head coach seems like a plan destined for success

Yeah I do know Hurney is calling in picks from what I read from yesterday. He might know he is on the way out and makes some shitty first rd pick to fug with organization. Then there is nothing we could do about it. Then he drops the mic and is out. Lol

The question: could it really be that much worse? comes to mind. At least Rhule has the hope of learning from his mistakes and Hurney is the mistake at this point.

1.  Tepper

2.  Rhule

8.  Hurndog

Some thoughts from the other day:

Hurndog has no autonomy, he is not functioning as a General Manager akin to what John Lynch or Brandon Beane or Bill Belichik do on a daily basis.  The GM title is something Tepper has chosen to leave in place out of convenience.

Decisions are being made collectively --- Hurndog has a seat at the table and his functions are to gather information and present it, along with an opinion --- but he has no authority to make solo decisions on anything that matters.

    • Teams do some super stupid stuff with mid-fairly good QBs. I think they are just absolutely terrified they will be stuck with a QB that is not the quality of the QB they have now, even if its someone like Daniel Jones. Lots of trash QBs go in the first round. I encourage you to take a look at the sad, sad list of first round QBs in the last 15 years.
    • No, it will be a raw 6'7" 17-year-old European who just played basketball for the first time in March and who the idiot GM "had first on our board." He'll play the whole G-League season, get in 42 games for the Hornets and average 1.1 ppg on 35% shooting. Been there, seen that.
    • We missed on Burns at his peak value. That’s the problem with trading for picks 2-3 years away (which people were convinced the Rams would suck by now and these would be higher picks btw). Each year away the pick is the further in value it drops. Fitt was clearly hired based on turning us around quickly. It’s one of the many reasons tanking isn’t really a thing as our player JJ is telling you in this original article. It would take the whole organization from the owners down admitting they aren’t winning soon with Burns and picks 2-3 years away having more value because that’s when we are still rebuilding. It would only make sense if Fitt had a longer leash and would more than likely be the ones making these picks anyway which you wouldn’t want. The question is would you rather have those Rams picks with the strong possibility of Fitt still being here or would you rather Fitt try to “win now” like he did and expedite his firing? Altering the timeline would affect more than just the Rams picks.
