"Derrick Brown is not a sexy pick."

Here's what's going to happen.

Brown is going to get just a few sacks a season. But by eating up blockers our rush linemen and backers are going to get more sacks than if he wasn't on the field. Value doesn't always show up on your own stat sheet, sometimes it shows up on the stat sheets of your team mates because of what you do that just simply isn't measured.

Brown is a guy that can anchor our DL for the next 8-10 years. He's brutally strong and even though he isn't an elite athlete once he develops his technique further he is likely to be a punishing pocket collapsing DT. I can see him eventually putting linemen on skates pretty regularly. He isn't an insane athlete but he will be a big impact on that DL, IMO. And at a position where he can have game changing impact.

I love Simmons but unless he develops(or is primarily used as) into a Von Miller type edge rusher, he isn't at a position where you will have quite the same impact on an offense. No slight to him at all but LB's are currently the lesser positional value in the modern NFL.

Completely agree.

Any player who must receive extra attention on a regular basis, is *incredibly* valuable regardless of "numbers".

Brown seems to be just that type of player.

As long as he isn't allowing a clean pocket for QBs to step up in to, Burns will EAT. If he's taking constant double teams, KK will EAT. If he's holding the LOS and not allowing Guards/Centers to run freely to our LBs, Shaq will EAT.

His job is not necessarily to EAT, but to make sure everyone else is set up at the table - the life of a team player at DT.

Last season our DTs were trying to EAT first. Unfortunately that left everyone else without a plate.

Glad some people around here still understand football.

So in order to “know football” you have to be in love with the Derrick Brown pick... Got you fam.  I personally wanted Tristan Wirfs or Jedrick Willis.. Although I guess my opinion doesn’t matter since I don’t know football.. Despite me being an all state rb, rushing for 2,000+ yards senior year of HS and playing 4 years of college football. People are allowed to have their own opinions. There isn’t one player in this draft who is a sure thing.

Didn’t say you have to be a Brown fan to know football. I preferred Thomas or Wills myself, but am happy with Brown. I was saying people that are saying a ”run stuffing DT” is easy to find as if that is all they contribute to the defense don’t know football.  I was saying people that understand a DT like Brown makes the entire defense better know football.

Its exactly star. Star level strength but I would argue star was a bit faster. Star ate double teams which is basically what we got Brown to do. He is not some pass rusher.

Lol you are high.  Watch the tape. Star never had burst or agility like this.  Brown's ceiling is literally the sky.

You must not remember stars college tape lol. No sir you are high...what frigging burst the guy ran a 5.1 arguably one of the worst combine performances in history and you wanna talk like he has some hidden athletic ability... stop it. Hes good at what he does. Stopping the run being a mauler thats fine. But he's not arron donald.

There's no one we've had that he quite compares to IMO.  Maybe a slightly larger and more durable Kris Jenkins.   So many refer to either a Star or KK "type" per how they were a tandem but Brown brings more pass rush ability than Star with that same level of run defense.

He may not be a perennial double digit sack type but it's the entire spectrum of skill.  I anticipate being him the leader and pocket collapser.  Probably a 4-8 sack range but that doesn't mean much, it's about the greater impact.

Star played at Utah bro.  Brown was ragdolling future nfl prospects in the SEC and was only slowed down when double teamed.  Im not much of a fanboy for combine numbers but i could show you at least 5 highlights where he shows far more athleticism than star ever did and ive only seen like 3 highlight reels.   Aaron Donald he is not but i could see him ending up more like fletcher cox in a few years.  This board is underrating him as a pass rusher bc they had a fanboy crush on a LB but you will see

I hope he does all the things you think he will but cox was much smaller and ran a 4.79 or so. They are night and day in what they bring to a team. Cox was a pass rush tackle specialist. Thats secondary for brown.

Cox was definitely a better athlete and pass rusher coming in but being longer and 30lbs heavier isnt going to show up in combine numbers the way it does on the field.  For his size and strength brown is quick and plays with a nastiness we currently lack on d line.  Probably not a great comparison but I like Cox and his physicality.  Seems to play with that same agression
