These were our cornerbacks in 2013.

Our best defense we ever fielded and one of the best Ds of all time.

Yes, our cornerbacks will be poo this year, but it won’t matter as we build up the front 7. Luke and TD were a huge part of that D and we’ll miss their impact at LB but what set that 2013 team apart was that elite DL, with Hardy before he went crazy and CJ before the Pats leg-whipped him with Star and KK in the middle.

No we’re not quite at that level yet but we are well on our way with the DL right now.

Gross Matos, KK, Brown and Burns... Oh man that is sexy... Rhule is building this team the right way.

Agreed. Building up the front 7 is the quickest way to get back to an elite defense. We came into the draft with a lot of holes on the defensive side of the ball and they can’t all be fixed in one draft. I’m sure we’ll address CB at some point tonight or tomorrow but just have to accept that this defense isn’t going to be completely fixed over night.

Well, you can't say it doesn't matter. It does. I like our DL now, but people can't act like the backfield doesn't matter. Our CBs this year are worse than 2013. Lets just wait and see how we address the issue first before people tout one way or the other. We have many holes to fill.

Yeah it’ll be a process of a couple years but picks like this are laying the foundation at the most important spots.

That's too early to say.  Nobody thought much of Florence when we signed him.  White was never good.  And Capt was a slot guy.  Norman barely played in 2013 IIRC.  Donte Jackson has more potential than Florence, White, and Capt.

I agree and all, but 2013 might as well be 1903 with the way the league has changed.

You can not fix this D with only one off-season and a draft where a few reached in the first for CBs.

Panthers 100% did the right move here.

Theres a few good free agent CBs in the open market, Im serious. Normally by now its picked clean, but CB has a few that could help this year. Most are young too, its legit group.

Y'all are acting like Donte Jackson can't improve. He's got the talent to be a #1 CB. Plus we've got Cockrell who is a solid player. We need a damn safety not a CB.  Fixing the line was the best way to improve the run and the pass defense across the board.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
