Good news, though...per the new CBA active rosters now have 55 guys. So, I guess we get to add 2 more vets cut by other teams later on!

True but there will be 62 guys on other rosters that wont be available.

My case for having 4 undrafted free agents on the roster in 2020:

  • Brandon Bowen, OT, Ohio State  Bowen was a starter at a Big 10 school as a sophomore and got injured.  he went through several surgeries, taking him out of 2018 altogether. He bounced back in 2019, got his job (RT) back, and played well.  In another T market, he might have been drafted, but the injury and lack of exposure as a JR hurt him, as did playing 2019 while regaining playing strength.  I project him as a G that can back up RT in a pinch.  I hate to mention Andrew Norwell, so I won't mention Andrew Norwell.
  • Chris Orr, LB,Wisconsin  His size hurt him--he cannot carry 240lbs (frame) like other ILBs, so he was not tall enough to ride that ride. His leadership is mentioned in articles about him, and that matters to Rhule.  And being signed by a team with a statue of Sam Mills outside the stadium was probably not lost on him.  We had Beason, another smallish MLB---could Orr be the next great MLB in Charlotte?  I would not bet against him.  I think we could go with 3 ILBs for now, but eventually, he will have to beat out K or Whitehead.  I think he can.
  • Omar Bayless, WR, Arkansas State  How this guy did not get drafted is unreal---only in a draft that was loaded at WR would this happen.  Bayless gives us a big (6-3) WR who plays fast and gets contested balls.  He needs some WR coaching, but this guy wins a job--I have 7 WRs on my roster, but we will probably go with 6---and Bayless will be in the top 5.
  • Giovanni Ricci, TE, Western Michigan  You should not discount this player before watching his tape.  He is a great blocker from the wing, motion, out wide, and is decent beside the tackle. He could mean bad news for Armah, depending on the offense.  Ricci's hands are good, he runs good routes, and he is very aware of the offense. He is that guy we have never really had here.  I am very high on him and think he will take one of our TEs' jobs---I want to say Manhertz but it could be DeSalve--again, depends on the offense.

I think they did their homework.

Was lurking a little because I had Omar Bayless as draftable on my wr-board. Hence why I wanted us to sign him, as I said in a early post here.

Why he did not get drafted?

  • Could be his age, he is or will be 24 this year. Teams tend to pick younger players. Most of the top wide receivers seems to be 21.
  • He did not have a many years of high production. One standout year and two "ok".
  • Played in a lower ranked division and when they did play against better team, they got demolished. Georgia 2019 tape for example, in which he had 3 catches for 24 yards. Or maybe that was Alabama 2018? So his worst game 2019 was when he played against a good team. Thats a red flag. The Alabama game, I think he was the best player on his team, did alot of blocking and a few nice catches from the slot.
  • Also his 4.62 could scare some, but looking at his tape, he looks faster.
  • But he do have some problem with separation and sometimes run into the defender instead of seeking the free space

His Combine was good, same with the training at the Collegiate bowl and he did score in the game by holding off the defender.

I have him a little to high on my board so maybe others can say why they dont like him, because I would have picked him in the 6th.

Maybe he has an attitude problem?  I would guess it's a coachability problem if that production gets you passed over by every team.

I tried to find some character information before the draft and the issue could be that he is to soft, maybe lack some self confidence or
esteem... Maybe not even enough hmm "fighting spirit". It seems he has lost some family and maybe even friends the last years which seems to have impacted him "too much". Thats not kind words of me, but yeah. Well of course I hope he balls out.

It's happens to talented kids a lot.  They think they can get by on talent alone and do not want to put in any effort beyond game day.   I'm sure his coaches know what's up and I'm sure someone in the organization talked to his coaches.  They will give him a shot to get his mind right or he will be cut.

Still missing the camp arm.  Did that QB Kipp (I think) sign anywhere?

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
