Rivera says they wouldn't want to bring Cam to DC because of Kyle Allen?

Damn Ron. Damn.

Redskins coach Ron Rivera said adding free agent QB Cam Newton "depends on circumstances."

Additionally, Rivera stated, "I think with Cam (Newton), and I have thought about it, I mean, it's something that's run through my mind, and it's about the situation and circumstances. I'm not sure I would do it. I'm not sure if I wouldn't do it." Previously the Redskins' new coach said that they passed on Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 2 overall pick because he saw enough from Haskins to give the second-year QB a shot to lead the offense in 2020. Rivera addressed this as well, noting, "You know, the thing about Cam really is the situation ... We're in a situation where we've got two really young quarterbacks, one that's been with us, been in the system, understands how we want things done and the other one is a guy who was taken last year in the first round and shows some promise." Ultimately, it's going to be hard for Cam to find a team until they're able to conduct a physical.

Cam is toast and Rivera knows it, and he knows he's the one that did it.

In reality, Ron actually said absolutely nothing.  Classic Ron.

He will play because Rivera churns and Burns QBs. He will use those QBs up in 5 years.

History has shown that Ron will likely run Haskins into the ground in a few years. But Allen will ride the pine unless Haskins is hurt (badly). Being ahead or behind by 50 points in the 4th quarter won't change that.

edit: Actually, maybe haskins will forget to wear a tie, and Allen will get some play time.

Fug Ron. I will forever loathe that man for wasting not  one, BUT TWO hall of fame generational talents. Two guys THE best at their position on each side of the ball for about 4 years, and you can't win a superbowl because you and your fuggin idiotic sidekick Shula were so stuck in your own asses. So many wasted years of Ron and Shula ball, only to run down your franchises' best QB ever at the young age of only 29. FUG HIM!

It’s not the GMs job to maximize the talents of your franchise QB...that’s the job of the coaching staff, specifically OC and QBC. Unfortunately, the Panthers never invested enough in Cam’s development either.

Ugh, that coach was hired by said GM who of course could have fired said coach for not maximizing the talents of said QB before it was too late.  Odd concept for some to understand but the results are what you have now.  That's why the buck stops at the GM.

Did you forget about Jerry’s? Do you think JR would’ve signed off on canning RR even if Hurney wanted to? Guess we’ll never know but he stuck around for 9 years, so....

Are you kidding?  JR wanted RR fired but Hurney fired himself instead.   Where were you?

LOL...not sure that’s exactly how that went down but okay. I’m sure we can agree there’s  enough blame to go around. Looking forward to the future and ready to move on.

just look at the difference between how Cam and Lamar Jackson have been treated by their teams

You have a freak athlete, once in a generation type talent at the QB position. What do you do?

Baltimore: Let's devise a new offense that maximizes his strengths against defense's weakness and minimizes the contact he takes

Carolina: QB POWER BABY RIGHT INTO THE LINE

His last injury occurred when he tried scrambling for a first down in a meaningless preseason game...

We went through it with Michael Vick. Generational talent, poo coaches, and whether you want to admit or not, a QB who didn't put forth 100%. Cam cared about fashion almost like Vick cared about dog fighting. It happens.

Draft a QB and move on. That's what we did.

I nominate you for dumbest post of the year.

Actually it is exactly how it went down.

Joe Person and Bill Voth have both talked about it in the past.

I’m not saying it’s right, but it does make sense if you have a defensive minded coach, which we had. A defensive minded coach is gonna say “hey, we have a dangerous duel threat QB with a rocket arm? Perfect. That will allow me to build a dominate defense and ensure I can put enough points on the board to win games with limited assets on offense”

Again, I’m not defending it, but it really isn’t surprising.

valid.

Looking back, it's weird that Old Man McWiggleJeans would hire Rivera and draft Cam in the same year. Oh well, hindsight is 50/50. (I'm going to miss those Cam-isms too.)
