CHARLOTTE — The Panthers have added a veteran linebacker, signing Julian Stanford on Saturday.

Stanford, who's entering his ninth pro season, spent the last two years with the Bills, mainly contributing on special teams. He did start one game for Buffalo in 2018. That year he recorded his first career sack, forced fumble, and pass defensed.

Overall, Stanford has appeared in 88 games since 2012 with 11 starts. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Jaguars and has since spent time with the Lions, Buccaneers, Jets, and Bills.

Stanford had a tryout with the Panthers earlier this week, and passed COVID-19 testing protocols. As a corresponding roster move, the Panthers have waived linebacker David Reese.

I like the kid as well, but he’s a rookie

Yea, panthers feel just like you too. Guess I just have bigger exceptions for the current LBs(Carter and Smith mainly)&Chinn. My main concern with Chinn is him remaining healthy. I feel hes going to be his own worst enemy.

    • I understand why people say things like it could be worse in relation to Tepper but it just doesn't jive for me. Are the optics bad? Yes. Would I want her to be the owner of my team? No. But I mean she's only been owner for a year and the Colts overall are a better run organization. As far as I know they've also never had the distinction of having the worst win percentage in all of professional sports either. Tepper has owned this team for 8 years and about the only thing that has been consistent has been the ability to continue to find different ways to achieve new lows. Even now people are saying things are different yada yada but we said these same things at certain points under Rhule Fitterer and Reich. I'm going to wait to see how the rubber meets the road this upcoming season before I make any strong conclusions about anything in relation to the longevity under this franchise going forward.
    • This is a toughie because I wonder what a guy like Canales thinks about redemption stories for addiction issues. Also, I think this is a case of 1 player getting caught, and not being naive enough to think this isn't more common in college than we think. I'd toss a 3rd rounder out there. 2026 is essentially a redshirt season regardless, so he's not taking over for any NFL QB next year. Best case, he's ready to go in 2027 if we pass on Bryce's extension. Worst case, he's our future backup QB2. Kid has the tools to be an NFL QB. I do think we could somehow land a '26 3rd round pick back in a trade. Our past years' third rounders are: Brazzell Princely Wallace DJ Johnson Matt Corral All this to say, I could see a team like the Jets going w/ a 2nd. They have three FRPs next year.
