New Panthers player is coming home

The Los Angeles Rams seventh round draft pick decided to join the Carolina Panthers as a UDFA instead of the Rams.

In a tweet, he said he was coming home.

Not only did the Rams decide to cut seventh-round Baylor linebacker Clay Johnston, but they won’t be retaining him on their practice squad, either. Johnston cleared waivers, making him available to the Rams again as a practice squad candidate. Rather than re-signing with the Rams, however, Johnston is joining the Panthers practice squad.

Johnston’s dad, Kent, is the head of Carolina’s strength program. So the two will get to remain close, rather than being across the country.

Also, Johnston rejoins head coach Matt Rhule and several other coaches from Baylor.

New to the forum so it won’t let me start a topic. Sorry to hijack the post with a question. Been a Panther fan since 96. Always lurked here but didn’t have much interest in posting until now. I coached for 14 years at a local youth organization. One of our kids got drafted this year and we have been yearning to frame a jersey of his in our office. Anyone have any idea when we will be able to buy Nike Elite jerseys again? Seems like we are one of a handful that can’t order them in the NFL store. I called their customer service and emailed the Panthers, neither has been any help yet.

Soon™

Given that Google says they are made in Guatelemala and Honduras, and the way corona complicates any non essential international shipping, it may be a hot minute.

Didn’t know they were made there, thanks for your help. We will try and be patient. Looking forward to watching him play on Sunday.

    • I find it funny those who continue to hate on Bryce based on his rookie year when he had zero weapons or offensive line have a problem with those of us projecting his career from the 8-9 games where he played like a top 10 QB and made more big time throws during that period than any other QB.  The stats may bot have been there in terms of yards or TD passes but that’s coming as the roster improves. For those who think physical traits can overcome roster deficiencies we all witnessed how Mahomes looked under pressure that Bryce faced for most of his rookie year, we saw what happened with Stroud in similar circumstances.  None of us were creating posts proclaiming Bryce as the next Brady but we can’t just sit idly while thread after thread is created continuing with the  anti Bryce tropes  instead of supporting him and just letting him continue to develop.
    • To me Bryce's ceiling is his backup, Andy Dalton, in his prime.  Sure, he may get us some winning seasons and may even get us to the playoffs on occasion, but with an early exit.  To me he doesn't have what it takes to be elite and it takes an elite QB to consistently get deep into the playoffs.  He's not Jackson, he's not Mahomes and he's not even Allen.  In an organization like Philly, he possibly could have what it takes to make a deep run, but let's face it...Philly is well oiled machine and and we are a GMC Grimlin.
    • If he was he would still be in the league.... Cam never learned to play QB without relying on his athletism and rocket arm.
