Deserved shout outs

Smithers

Plenty of shouts outs for our main playmakers.  I want to give a shout out to a couple guys who don’t get their name called enough.

1.  John Miller.  Dude is a damn man in the run game and great pulling on screens and dump offs.  He literally picked up Samuel and pushed him for another 8-10 yards on that final drive.  Great pickup by Marty.

2.  Joey Slye...so far has been one of the best kickers in the NFL. Clutch kick at the end.

Agreed. There were people whining when we traded Turner for Okung. Do we even miss Turner with Miller in there? And do I even have to mention Okung? First legitimate LT we've had in years.

As for Slye, he is quieting down all the incessant crying about Butker. Slye isn't quite  as good of course, but Butker has actually missed 1 more kick than Slye this year and is paid 10 times more. I think we're doing OK.

Well said.  That trade is looking brilliant right now.

Imagine both in the game.  CMC could split out wide, and the defense still had to respect Davis in the backfield.

I want to see this.  Davis has proven he needs some pt.  Him and cmc together could be special though.

    • This guy pre-draft was saying he could take or leave football, and he seems to have been playing with that mentality ever since lol.
    • Agreed, another safety would be nice. Bud Clark, TCU, is one I would like to see us take a flyer on later in the draft, if he stays healthy and we don't take someone earlier. I just really hope we draft a solid C this year. Tired of seeing us cycle through average to below average players in that area.
    • Bryce doesn't like throwing into the middle of the field unless the play broke down or it's set up to give him a passing lane.  So because of this issue, most of the passing offense has to be outside the numbers towards the boundary. So you see him throw a lot of dump offs, swing routes, short side out routes, comebacks or deep balls outside the numbers using the boundary as protection of an interception.    Pretty easy for a NFL defense to see this and scheme against it.  All you have to do is run a shell cover 2 deep dime, LB plays a hook underneath, take the flat away with a blitz/flat zone option for the two inside DB's, outside two DB's play hook zone underneath and carry anything deep.    Pretty much what NO ran to take away Rico while also limiting What Bryce can do as well.
