Zach Wilson and 9 BYU vs 21 Boise State (BYU's one formidable opponent) Thread. Friday 11-6-20 945 PM FS1

Recommended Posts

The No. 9 Cougars (7-0) are off to their best start since 2001 while dominating a slate of weaker opponents. BYU is averaging 44.4 points and 527.7 yards per game while holding opponents to 13.4 points and 281.3 yards per contest. The Cougars allowed just 4.0 yards per play in their 41-10 victory over WKU last weekend. The Hilltoppers had three drives totaling 10 or more plays but came away with a combined three points.

For the No. 21 Broncos (2-0, 2-0 MW), this game represents their best shot to build a case for getting to a New Year's Six bowl if they can run the table in a mediocre Mountain West Conference. Boise State is potent as ever on offense. The Broncos are averaging 45.5 points and 454.5 yards through their first two games. Boise State stretched its winning streak over conference opponents to 11 games with a 49-30 victory over Air Force last weekend.

Boise State leads the series 7-3. BYU earned the most recent victory in the series, knocking off the No. 14 Broncos 28-25 last season. It ended up being Boise State's lone regular-season defeat.

Since we're all looking out for the QB Zach Wilson. Here are his stats: 2,152 yards passing, 19 TD's to 2 INT's. Only been sacked 4 times. 74% completition percentage.

7 more TD's rushing. All this through 7 games.

Zach Wilson delivered an uneven performance by his standards against the Hilltoppers. Wilson threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns, but completed only 56 percent of his passes and tossed his second interception of the season. Still, BYU topped 40 points for the sixth time this season and 400 yards for the seventh time. As long as Wilson has Gunner Romney and Dax Milne around as targets, the Cougars' passing game will remain dangerous. Romney and Milne have combined for 1,221 yards and eight touchdowns through seven games.

If you're a betting guy, BYU -3.

    • He’s been every bit as much of the problem as anyone else. You cant remove him from that fact, he is just as much part of the team and in THE most important position on the field. But this is the first season he’s seen any kind of continuity in his team and coaches. And he’s shown flashes here and there. But we do need more out of him going forward a lot more if we are going to be successful
    • Bryce isn’t great and super mid. But I think can be a game manager. What do we think is out there? Daniel Jones isn’t going anywher. Mac Jones? Zach Wilson? Pickett. I’m just not sure what’s out there that is much better without having to give up a ton of capital. Rather take one more step closer to contention with our early rounders next year with FS and LB help. Make this  place where dang they got a defense and a WR1 and solid RB room. I can win with that and want to be here
    • AR15 is if Justin Fields was fragile and his teammates hated him. No thanks. Ya'll think you hate watching Bryce Young? Wait until your QB can't even complete a 7 yard pass over the middle, which Fields and Richardson can't do. If the draft class was better, I could absolutely see the Titans moving on from Ward already if they got the #1 pick. But so far the college QB's haven't impressed enough. They'll have flashes, but then follow it up with a very meh game. Kyler is already done in Arizona, but he has a ridiculous contract and he's basically Bryce that likes to scramble, so no thanks. If Lawrence can't produce with that team in Jacksonville, what do you think he'll do here? He's tall Bryce who can throw deep but can't make the 4th down throws and crumbles in the red zone. No thanks. I do think Canales wants to move on from Bryce, his body language says so even in wins. He treated Bryce pretty odd this week and Bryce looked checked out in the Packers game. But unless they make another risky trade, its going to be slim pickings. Basically our hopes lie in hitting early in the draft with a Mateer, Nussmeier, Beck type or finding a random backup free agent that has another gear to hit.  I think even with the draft being wishy washy, 4-5 QB's will be taken in the top 7. A lot of teams are just that desperate.
