what happened here?  He's only 26 and was a third round pick...he gets healthy and they cut him.  Did they decide they weren't going to re-sign him after the season so go ahead and give him a chance elsewhere?

Or is there something we don't know.  I'd bring in him for a workout.

The Vikings also gifted us with Mike Remmers and Matt Kalil.

Perhaps we should take a hard swerve around this one on second thoughts.

Buy low option on a 26 yr IOL. As many have said, he can’t be worse than Reed. Not sure if he would clear Covid protocol in time for the Lions, but would still get a 5 game tryout and the bye week would help give him time to ramp up.

The former third-round pick earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team in 2017 after starting 14 games at center for the Vikings. He played the same role in 2018, but he was switched to guard in 2019 after Minnesota drafted Garrett Bradbury in the first round of that year’s draft.

Elflein started 15 games at guard in 2019, and he started the 2020 season opener before tearing a thumb ligament. That injury forced Elflein to land on the IR, and after returning to practice three weeks ago, his IR-DTR window had recently come to an end. Therefore, the Vikings had no other choice than to activate Elflein.

As our own Sam Robinson noted yesterday, the Vikings have used veteran Dakota Dozier as a guard starter all year, and they recently moved second-round rookie Ezra Cleveland into their starting lineup at guard. Considering the recent performance of Dalvin Cook and the Vikings running game, the coaching staff apparently thought it was better to roll forward with their current grouping.

I'm all for bringing him in and giving him the rest of the season to earn a new contract next year.  Looks like the Vikes just had better alternatives once he got healthy.

After reading this....

1st round, 2nd round, 3rd round selections over the last 4 years (may be more) just on the interior offensive line.

Not saying that it's working out well for them, but that's some pretty smart construction, if the players are legit.
