Snap Counts vs Minnesota

  • Safety Jeremy Chinn played 100 percent of the snaps for the fourth time this season. Chinn ranks fourth among NFL rookies with 87.8 percent of the defensive snaps played this season.
  • Defensive tackle Zach Kerr had a career-high eight tackles with a pass deflection and strip-sack, despite playing just 28 snaps.
  • Linebacker Jermaine Carter started and played in 64 percent of the snaps at middle linebacker. Tahir Whitehead was active and played just one snap.
  • Defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos played in 56 percent of the snaps, his second-highest percentage this season.

Agreed.  I don't think he's the answer either, but early returns indicate he is better than Whitehead.  At this point, any improvement in the middle of that defense is helpful.

If I'm being honest, I truly thought that the reason we were paying Shaq all that money is because we knew Luke was retiring and the thought was to move Shaq into the middle.  I can't fathom paying a 4-3 OLB what we're paying Shaq.  Yes, I understand that a 3-4 OLB is also an edge rusher, so I could see paying a Von Miller type player that money.  I just don't see very many 3-4 looks from this defense at all.  I mean, I see some 3-3 where Chinn will creep down into the box to give us a "sort of" 3-4 look, but nothing that's a clear 3-4.
