Zach Wilson, Trey Lance or...

ffs.  Really?  This is the year for us to draft a QB - if our plan is to acquire a QB through the draft.

We will not pick this high again next year.  We just won't.  Too many people keep forgetting about that FIFTY ONE MILLION in dead cap we have this year.  Next year it's nine.  We're gaining FORTY TWO MILLION in cap for next year.  You can pick up quite a few NFL quality players with that.

Let's say we "only" get five NFL starters with that money.  This team, plus five quality starters, plus CMC, is NOT a top ten drafting team.  I'm not saying we're a playoff team next year, I'm saying that a couple of these close losses will be wins.  Even if it's only two, you're sitting at 6-6 right now.

Let's be realistic here.  If we want to draft a QB high, this is the year.  Even TB5's contract says this is the year.

That is absolutely not something you can guarantee.

Hell, even an improved roster doesn't guarantee an improved record. There's a lot of factors that go into that.

And again, if you've filled other holes, cleaning up becomes a lot more viable option.

I haven't watched much other than a few highlight reels of either guy, but I'm seeing more and more comments from people warming up to Wilson and souring on Lance.

Has more to do with Wilson actually playing this year and Lance stuck in purgatory and not going HAM in his one outing at the beginning of the Season.

Well then if he has an opportunity to play in an All Star game, he should probably take it.

Are they even having those games this year though? Do we know yet?

Trey Lance had nothing to gain from playing in that game and I don’t think anyone’s opinion of him should change due to that game.

this board would not be able to handle the sam howell arguments

I said a while back when there was talk about Lawrence possibly staying in school that watching Lawrence vs Howell arguments on this board could be as entertaining as anything I've ever seen.

It'll be a rough trade up from middle of the 1stbwhich is where I expect to likely be.

We don't really know where we'll be though.

You also have to factor in that if we don't draft a quarterback this year, and maybe even if we do, you're quite possibly looking at another year of Teddy Bridgewater as the starter.

Shouldn't but it did

Which may be a good thing for us as many are fixated on Wilson & Trask.

Trask's ball placement has been unreal this year.  And Wilson is doing it all.  Sure they have question marks but I think we've got a packed class to choose from.  Trask is a walrus but he sits in the pocket beautifully and does a lot of nice things.  Maybe he trims down a touch and can get sub 5.00.

Lance though, he's got a lot of what you look for.

I have no idea how to rank these guys after Lawrence & Fields.

If we are in the top 10 and a top 4 QB drops to us, you take him.  You can't assume you will be there again.

There are also some strong position players to thin this group out--but not many.

Wilson, Lance, Fields, and Lawrence---I like this group, honestly.  And we can develop a qb for a while with Bridgewater here, so I say take the QB, build the OL, and find a MLB.

I just started watching some highlights on QBs after the game Sunday.  I'd love another draft to stock the OL but I think if we have the chance to take a qb our staff likes this year, we take him and let him learn for a year behind Teddy.  Hopefully find a LT in the second who can start next year and get the experience.

Spend a later pick on IOL and then get a starter early next year.  Bring back Moton.

I haven't watched much, but I love the way Wilson throws.  Some guy on another forum keeps harping about the fact he's had surgery on his shoulder and thumb, and I understand the concern, but he's been lighting it up after the surgery.  His throws look like the real deal.

Which means he probably won't be there when we pick. (sighs)

Some concern also in a draft analysis about his throwing motion needing to be re-worked, which is a big red flag to me, but he's sure as hell making it work the way it is now.

It all depends on who our staff likes.  If they feel confident in a QB at our pick, I think they'll take him and groom him under Teddy next year.  Looking like that was the plan all along.

Howell. BUT, I don't think we'll be bad enough to be in position to draft Howell next year.

Honest question, is he even that good? I don’t get many UNC games in Utah, but the ones I have seen, I haven’t really been that impressed.
