Could the top of the draft be flipped?

The vast majority of experts and analysts say no.

But there's this...

Meyer did not coach Justin Fields at Ohio State, but Meyer did recruit him while there. Also of note, Meyer once told Colin Cowherd that he'd take special note of Fields leadership ability "if he were running an NFL franchise".

If the Jags hire Meyer, things might just get interesting.

At this point Lawrence has so much hype and is regarded as such a can't miss prospect that I feel like any GM/HC who doesn't take him is effectively betting their job that whatever they do instead works or they are toast. I think that makes any other move extremely unlikely by normally risk averse NFL people. The name of the game in the NFL is blame shifting, not hanging your sack out there.

I think most people will agree that Lawrence will still be tge 1st overall pick by Jacksonville.

However, with news that Jacksonville is after Urban Meyer, there is at least a chance now that they go Fields. Not much of a chance, but there is a chance.

Once you get past TL, I don't see much difference in the NFL potential of Fields vs Wilson.  I do see the drop off in potential after that.  The only way we get one of the top three at 9 is if someone above us falls in love with Trey Lance.  Not saying that's impossible, but it's unlikely.

Yeah, that's the thing. He's been dubbed a future #1 overall pick for years. If you take him and he's good but Fields ends up better no one is going to blame you. If you take Fields and he busts while Lawrence becomes great, you're probably gonna be on an AM radio show with Marty Hurney soon.

Flipside is also true. What if Meyer passed on Fields to take Lawrence only to see Lawrence bust and Fields, whom he had a connection with, thrive?

Nobody would blame him at all, that is the point LG was making.
GMs and HCs don’t get fired for taking the guy everyone thinks they should.

Just read where Jacksonville is also interested in current Ohio State coach Ryan Day, who was the offensive coordinator under Urban Meyer.

Urban can find talent. Maybe this is Urban in as GM, and Ryan Day as Coach?  This could be significant. One thing overlooked in drafting is drafting for system fit.  If both are in Jacksonville this could get interesting

All of you selling Lance short are going to look back one day and reflect as to why jumping on the flavor-of-the-month QB is not the most prudent thing to do when guesstimating who will be the superior pro prospect.

Who is flavor of the month? Lawrence has been the 1 and Fields has been the 2 for the longest time. Lance was in the running to be 3 but after about week 4 Wilson was in the running for 3. He’s been so good people thought he could be the second QB off the board. Lance didn’t help his stock in 2020. His last two games against lesser competition were 10 total passing compared to 30 runs in the biggest game of their year and then this new season he completed just half his passes in an ugly showing where he was wildly inaccurate. It’s completely understandable why Wilson passed him.

All of your pontifications about Lance (including his championship win) isn't going to change the intimation of my statement.

Wilson gives off enough Mayfield-Manziel vibes that his assumed spot in the draft above Lance is anything but a sure one. He's basically a one-year wonder himself, with an injury history and funky mechanics to boot. So, slow your roll!

And Lance is a one year wonder playing on by far the best team in the subdivision. Nothing you have written has changed any of the truths I have also written. His team went out of their way in the championship game to limit his throwing and in his one game this year they absolutely should have done the same because it was a horrific showing.

Who is the flavor of the month? Fields was the presumed #2 overall pick coming into this season. Lance was also assumed to be a 1st rounder. Wilson has been the fast riser, but that goes back to late October/early November. There hasn't been any late risers.
