Just to be clear, McClain still doesn't believe that the Texans will trade Watson.

He's also said that if they do, the only team that has a realistic chance is the Jets because of what they can offer in return.

He's giving a framework for a starting offer if they change their minds, but he doesn't believe they're going to change their minds.

Your still only giving up 3-4 picks

Yes, its less of a guaranteed.

But you make that deal for Watson.  You are essentially taking the entire defense away, and mow have 0 picks to fix it, and 0 cap to fix it.

You now have Watson, playing behind a patch work at best OL with 0 picks and 0 cap to fix it.  One thing to keep jn mind as well.  We're banking on Moton, with Watson's deal and CMC's deal, we're not going to be able to afford him.  So your litterally have no chance but to start Little, Daley, Paradis, a Chris Scott, and a Mike Remmers type OL your looking at, BEST case scenio.

Your taking 8 steps backwards for 1 step forward.  Watson behind that OL woupd get killed, and then you'd HAVE to rely on him to put up a min of 30 ppg and thats not even an exaggeration

I hear ya but I think the price comes down as long as they play hard ball with him, especially they take it pass the draft. He is willing to sit, are they willing to lose those picks?

They will trade him, and he doesn’t have to go to jets so I’m not believing that lol.

I'm not so sure they will.

As to the Jets, Watson is reported to be a big fan of Robert Saleh.

Have also heard it said that he has family in New York but I can't verify that.

Yeah I don’t believe he would want to go to a team with no offense and I mean no OFFENSE

McClain also gone from "The Texans are not trading Watson" to "if the Texans were to trade Watson". He's putting out what the Texans want put out.

The Texans will do everything they can to repair the relationship and try to keep Watson. If they determine they can't, they'll take the best deal they can get which may end up being less than what they are leaking through McClain right now.

McClain is anything but a Texans mouthpiece.

You should read some of the stuff he's written about Cal McNair, Bill O'Brien, Jack Easterby and others.

Either the terms McClain is throwing out are what he's been told by his sources in the Texans organization, or he's speculating.

Burns is worth at least 2 1sts by himself. An elite pass rusher already, not even in his prime yet, with 3 cheap years left. He would get over $20 million per year as a free agent. No way you include him with 2 1sts and 2 2nds; I don't care if your 2nd player is Tre Boston. Personally if Burns is involved, I'm not giving more than pick 8. I don't give a damn if Houston laughs and walks away. Good riddance. Burns is literally the next most valuable asset outside a franchise qb.

Price wont go down because there is still a ton of teams in a demand for a QB and 2 of them are as rich as Tepper but in reguards to trade assets

I'd say it's the second.

What the organization has been putting out there is it would take a bigger deal than has ever been made in history.

Whatever they do it sounds like Fitterer is going to at least explore the idea of trading for him at a minimum.

Would the Seahawks still be competitive since 2016 without Wilson? They’re a sub .500 team without him.

What happened to the Broncos since Manning left? I’m sure Elway would trade his 2016-2018 drafts for a guy like Watson.

I don’t even want to bring them up, but look at the Patriots with and without a franchise QB

I hope everyone sees the same conclusion I see—you’re nothing in the NFL without a franchise QB.

The past two decades of super bowl contenders do have a franchise QB as a top correlation... but it’s #3.

The first two?

1. Top defense

2. Top oline

With literally a few anomalies.

There are tons of examples throughout history of poor teams with a franchise QB who went no where.

Like for example the 2020 Texans.

If you have nothing to build with AND and team need building, a franchise QB will not matter.

You see success in these scenarios when a franchise QB goes to a team that is already solidly built.

See the 2020 Bucs. They’re full of mercenaries yes but also have always been full of talent. They should have been competitors for years. Winston literally threw 30 interceptions last year.

A great a example of a team benefitting from a rediculoous trade like this is Miami - not to mention the capital they have.

San Fran also a good example.

The rebuilding Panthers who literally have no oline and a bottom ranked defense is almost the best possible example of a team who would get crippled with this kind of trade - especially giving up two defensive players which is basically all we really have.

    • I'll say 6. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition and will do more to help the defense than anyone. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole there. For all the hype surrounding Sanders and Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
    • 2010 was worse. Not much worse but worse.
    • Lol since 2017 the Panthers are 47-85,    Also since 2017 the Giants are 40-91-1   Lol
