Dark horse QB option: Derek Carr?

He threw for 4100 yards and 27 TDs vs. 9 INTs this year. You damn straight I'll take that.

We just tried to trade #8 and more for a guy who had nearly identical numbers this year and is four years older.

Plus Carr isn't likely to generate the kind of offers that Stafford did.

I don't think giving up a lot of draft capital is wise. He is a good candidate to get cut. He isn't a Watson or Stafford level QB.

He's definitely not. With all the need at QB out there and his ability and age, there would absolutely be a robust trade market if Gruden wants to move on. If he does, it'll be his undoing. They aren't in a position to likely get an upgrade.

Yeah, I suppose he is. That is a tempting contract. I was only looking at it from a "cutting them costs the Raiders almost nothing" perspective.

I think I am underrating him, as well. This market is crazy right now and that is a VERY good contract.

I just can't fathom why you would elevate Mariota over him.

I would 100% ok with Derek Carr.  Look at this:

All the guy has done since entering the league is get better and better and better.  27 TD, 9 INT's, 4100 yards last year.  Almost 8 yards per attempt.  YES PLEASE.

He's relatively young, with another 5-7 years of prime football in him unless he gets abused.

Oh, and there's this:

Five game winning drives last year.  Hi there clutch QB.

Yeah, that guy has an unhealthy QB fetish. Not in a good way.

Gruden's long had what I call a lottery ticket mentality when it comes to quarterbacks.

"Okay, we tried this one and it wasn't an instant winner so let's buy another one."

That's not unusual for fans, but it's not a good mindset for a professional coach.

The constant QB churn was absurd in Tampa. It was funny because no matter how many he always churned through, it was always the same guy or two that were "The Guy."

While still on the hook for TB's dead money so this makes no sense. Even when it came to Stafford, no one is trading for TB to lessen his hit on the books.

The colts would. Especialyl if they draft a young qb. They dont have a qb on the roster with NFL experience. Also, if we trade TB - whatever team that gets him , wil have him on a one year deal with the majority of the deal paid for by us. Its not going to be hard to offload Teddy.

Stafford was a special case in which the Rams desperately wanted to unload Goff. I don't see Carr or the other QBs getting that kind of return for their QBs. (Speaking in relatives to value, obviously Watson will command more compensation).

Doubt it, they still have Jacoby Brissett who people could argue is better than TB or at the very least a lateral move, and they took Jacob Eason last year.

If they make a QB move it's for a clear upgrade.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
