but how does doing pretty much everything he is asked to do well negative for him?

Does what is being asked of him translate to the NFL? If not, do the physical traits allow for the possibility of him to do more?

Going back to Herbert last year, honestly what Oregon asked him to do didn't translate to the NFL and that was my big hang up on him, but his physical traits were undeniable. He was every bit the physical specimen that Trevor Lawrence is. Lawrence is the more natural runner, but Herbert had the better arm IMO.

I’m not a scout and don’t profess to be. However, two of the three negative plays you cite do not seem to be as big of concerns as you make them out to be. The play at 06:20 does seem to be a miscommunication in which Jones threw an out-breaking route where the receiver broke in and/or was held from breaking out. At 06:40, Jones’ arm was very clearly hit, negating the ability to follow through and likely leading to the floater. There are also several plays which he keeps alive with his feet or scrambles for a few yard pick-up. Maybe a tough game to scout, but how does doing pretty much everything he is asked to do well negative for him?

I don't make them out to be "concerns" it's just what I see on tape and I take the note. I don't have a personal vendetta against the guy or anything lol

Jones is better than Tua according to Devonta Smith who caught passes from them both. And he said it isn't close. Plus Smith is the best receiver in the draft.

Could that be possibly because Jones threw him the ball 57 more times than Tua did? lol

This doesn't really factor into scouting, there isn't a NFL person alive who thinks Mac Jones as a better prospect than Tua.

Wow this deteriorated into another Mac Jones discussion quickly. Non -QB question, why do you like Jordan better than Pat Freiermuth?

I think Jordan is a little more dynamic and you can use him in the slot, outside, wherever. I like his growth every year, and I think the sky is the limit for him. Freiermuth is more of a prototypical guy, and there is nothing wrong with that, it's just a matter of preference I guess. Plus you have to factor in the injuries and his lack of growth compared to Jordan.

Thanks. I've been doing a little reading today, and it looks like Jordan may be a little less flashy as a pass-catcher that Freiermuth, but a better blocker. I like TE's who aren't afraid to smack someone in the mouth.

Honestly, Jordan isn't even the best TE on the Canes roster.

I like him as an H-Back guy. I think his ceiling is probably Jared Cook.

The biggest knock for me is that he can't stay healthy - has never finished a full season in College.

That isn't true. Here is a recent article saying just that.

Plus Simms thinks Jones is better than Tua and he has been right over the last several drafts.

Honestly I think he's just boringly efficient at getting the ball to his playmakers in space.

Very few flashy plays or jaw dropping throws (he doesn't have the arm strength for that), so people don't have anything to hang their hat on.

When you're being criticised for executing the complex offence of the National Champions well then what can you do?

    • Any idea what happened to him at LSU? im reading that he was considered a 1st round pick in 2023, had an off 2024 season with only 4 sacks but was also on a horrible FSU team then went to LSU where he was supposed to be on an aggressive defense that should have given him a lot of sacks but he only ended up with one….   was he injured? Did the top SEC competition expose him? What happened? Cause this guy was considered a top prospect .
    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
