SF might have traded up for Wilson if they know that Jets will not be selecting a QB. Close ties between SF and Jets.

Will be interesting to see

The 49ers traded up to number three because they know the Jets are not moving off of taking Wilson at number two.

But why #3?  I guess the NFL is WAY higher on Jones than a lot of us are.  Even if the Niners thought we would take him at #8, they didn't have to jump all the way up to #3 to secure him.

This still baffles me.

The Niners are either going to look like geniuses in a few years or like complete morons.   There's no middle ground on this move from my perspective.

They are going for broke, and I don't blame them.

Play in a VERY tough division right now, with all of the other 3 teams either having good or great QB play, and have a roster ready to win now.

If they played it safe, the GM and HC would be out of a job in a year or two.  McVey doing the exact same thing, going for broke.

If Mac Jones ends up playing like I think he will, they may be out of a job in a year or two anyhow for passing up on Fields and Lance.

Old news. Mac Jones will be a 49ers.

#1 Jax - Trevor Lawrence

#2 Car - Zach Wilson

#3 SF - Mac Jones

#4 Atl - Justin Fields

#5 Den - Trey Lance

#6 Mia - Kyle Pitts

#7 Det - Micah Parsons

#8 Nyj - Penei Sewell

#9 Cin - Jamarr Chase

#10 Dal - Patrick Surtain

It is not news until it happens--and if there are other possibilities.  Come on man--sharing updated information is not something that should be treated with dickism.

I'm not buying that they are taking Jones, what I'm buying is that the 9ers found out that 1 and 2 were not going to be able to be bought, so they got the next best thing...the option to pick one of the 3 of their choosing.

They MAY know who that player is already, but I doubt it.  They were buying the opportunity, not the player yet...me thinks.

This month, they will do a deep dive and figure out which if the 3 they want to select.

I believe that too, just cant exclude the other options. The point is I believe SF knows exactly what Jets Will do.

Personally I believe that SF traded up for Fields most likely, maybe Wilson. I dont believe that Mac will be their Guy at All.

It's not my belief. Albert Breer reported it.

The Jets and 49ers staffs are well acquainted, including the GMs. The Niners know they have no shot at Wilson.

Here's how I look at the Niners taking Mac Jones situation; that's one team off the board for another QB or OT to be there for us at #8.  That means only ONE TEAM, just one has to take another position other than QB or OT for us get one of those very two targets.  Meaning it will be extremely likely we get to have a shot at either a QB or OT, if not a choice of the two.

So yeah, I'm all about the Niners taking Mac Jones.

I did want to correct one thing though...someone in this thread said that the QB in Shanny's system has to be athletic, that's simply not true.

Some of his best years was with Schaub, Ryan, and Cousins.  I wouldn't consider any of them to be more than a decent athlete...at best.

Not saying that Jones is the guy, but I bet Shanny thinks he can win with him.

People have said the same thing about our system, including a few specifically saying that you needed a Cam Newton type of quarterback to make this system work.

That's a statement that pretty clearly says someone doesn't know what they're talking about.

Mac Jones is safer than Fields.

Fields is like a flashy sports car.  He looks good in the highlights but when you really look in to him he is not reliable at all, makes constant mental mistakes, and underperformed massively considering all the talent around him.

Mac Jones may be a Honda Civic but sometimes that's all you need.

LOL.  "underperformed massively"?!?!?!?  In what way did he underperform massively.  He led his team to an undefeated season up until the National Championship game - two years in a row!  This year he's at 22 TD vs 6 INT's, 70% completion rate over eight games.  Last year 41 TD's vs 3 INT's at 67% passing.

Even in the Bama game, did you watch it?  His line did him ZERO favors, his receivers were dropping the ball left and right, and the defense crapped the bed.  You can't ask any team to put up 53 points against St Nick's defense.

He's a good player, who is . . . wait for it . . . 20 - 2.  He has ONLY ever lost in the NC game.  Yes, last year's NC game he has to shoulder some blame for that.  But not this year.  NC game winners average giving up 19 points.  Fields put up 24; something only two other teams all year did against Bama.

I don't love Fields like I do Lawrence and Wilson, but he's easily the third best QB in this draft.  I would be THRILLED if we someone landed him.
